Summary: ThePodiatristshall provide personnel for services in support of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA (NMCP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position)
The HCW shall provide services to a minimum of 250 patients per month which is in accordance with normal standards within NMCP.
Provide appointment services within thirty (30) minutes of the appointed time. When the daily schedule is not full, the HCW shall provide services (during clinic times) for walk-in patients, perform dictation, complete medical boards, and perform other health care administrative duties.
Provide medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle with comprehensive and complete podiatric medical examination for consultation, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
Provide biomedical examination with fabrication or prescribing of orthotic and shoe appliances or devices, including design of special shoes.
Diagnose, treat, and/or refer all dermatological diseases of the foot and ankle.
Diagnose, treat, and/or refer all circulatory disorders affecting the foot and ankle.
Diagnose, treat, and/or refer all neurological disorders affecting the foot and ankle.
Diagnose, treat, and/or refer arthritis and other inflammatory diseases affecting the foot and ankle.
Diagnose and treat all toenail disorders.
Diagnose, treat, and/or refer skin and soft tissue tumors and cysts of the foot.
Perform soft tissue surgery of the foot (including skin and nails).
Perform digital osseous and soft tissue surgery, including the great toe.
Diagnose, treat, and/or refer foot and ankle trauma (strains, sprains, contusions).
Perform skin and soft tissue biopsy of the foot and ankle.
Provide treatment of closed extremity dislocations or simple fractures of foot and ankle.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of the foot and ankle.
Order and prescribe treatment by physical medicine and therapy.
Admit pediatric patients to the hospital for further treatment or surgery with co-signature by the attending physician.
Perform forefoot and mid foot reconstructive surgery.
Systematically monitor effectiveness of practice through client database and outcomes evaluation. Synthesize and use the results of these evaluations to make or recommend changes including policy, procedure or protocol documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
Successful completion a Podiatric residency (PSR24 only) approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
A minimum of two (2) years of experience (including surgical experience) within the preceding two (2) years as a Podiatrist.
Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physician or supervisor who has personally observed and evaluated the provider and who can attest to the provider’s clinical competence in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the provider’s patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the provider’s communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference. Letters of recommendation must have been written within the preceding two (2) years.

Office and medical center outpatient clinic environment. Must be available to travel locally, regionally and nationally.
