Big Data Engineer
The Database Engineering Team is looking for a Big Data Engineer to work with an existing team of engineers supporting the Hadoop and HBase clusters that the Bronto SaaS platform runs on. The engineer in this position will be responsible for software installations, cluster maintenance, troubleshooting, and assisting in the development of scripts or tooling to automate routine tasks.
In addition, you will be part of a team that also supports MySQL and Oracle DB on an on-call basis, so some cross-platform training and mentoring will be provided to ensure you are confident and able to provide minimal administration and troubleshooting support for these RDBMS environments as well.
Participate in the design and maintenance of Hadoop and HBase systems and environments
Install Hadoop, HBase and related third party applications
Create and adapt tools to automate the maintenance and configuration of Hadoop / HBase
Enhance automated monitoring and alerting
Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and solve problems with Yarn and Spark jobs
Define and document internal procedures and best practices
Participate in on-call rotation
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
1-2 years' experience supporting a Hadoop environment (Cloudera Hadoop preferred)
Strong Linux background
"Nice to Have" Experience and Knowledge:
Excellent knowledge of Cloudera Hadoop architecture, administration and support
Experience developing in a high-level language (php, ruby, java, python)
Experience working with source code management tools (like Git)
Experience with automated configuration management (Puppet, Chef, or Ansible)
Some knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, Oracle)
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
