Role Summary

The Director leads all functions and activities related to the Specialty Chemicals’ business strategy and financial objectives.

The Specialty Chemicals area consists of 4 direct reports and a total organization of 12 people. The business has an annual revenue in the $90M to $95M range.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute strategies and policies for Specialty Chemicals across Marketing/Business Management, Sales and Technical Services in alignment with SPD strategies.

  • Deliver specialty chemical profitability as outlined in P&L targets (OP and EBIT).

  • Participate as a key member of the SPD Leadership Team.

  • Coordinate and lead resources from corporate functions that are needed to effectively manage the business.

  • Develop and manage the forecasting, budgeting and LRP processes.

  • Hire and develop talent, build partnerships within the organization.

  • Establish objectives and deliver reviews for personnel through the CHD performance management system.

  • Communicate across the business through vehicles such as monthly meetings, sales conference calls, and quarterly business updates to the organization.

  • Manage the relationships between SPD and the Armand and ArmaKleen joint venture companies.

  • Management representative for the Responsible Care Program.

  • Travel up to 50%

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution required. MBA preferred.

  • 15 years of progressive experience in sales/marketing management.

  • Experience as a general manager running a B2B business with accountabilities for Marketing & Operations experience preferred.

  • Has had accountability for growth of both revenue and profit for the business. The profit is for a complete P&L statement - all the way down to EBIT.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must have leadership skills to articulate a vision, to motivate others to achieve it and to build internal/external credibility.

  • Motivated self-starter with a sense of urgency, poised, energetic, results oriented and competitive.

  • He/she will have strong teamwork and management skills.

  • Computer literate and knowledgeable of MS Office.

  • Excellent problem analysis and resolution skills at the strategic and functional level as well as financial or analytical proficiency.

  • Ability to study, identify, understand, prioritize, plan and clearly articulate market and customer requirements – even when only partial data exists.
