Role Summary:

The Program Scientist will lead category product development under the guidance of R&D Director. Conduct research and development on VMS products from concept to launch. Partner with other stake holders to grow the line of business and improve product quality. Manage and provide technical support to a few direct reports. Provide leadership in product innovation and the launch of new products.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages major, technically complex product development initiatives from white space conception, through development, evaluation, launch, post-launch evaluation and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinates intra-R&D department activities (Packaging, Process, Quality, etc.) Works proactively within a multi-disciplinary, high-performing team environment.

  • Partners with sales, marketing, legal, etc. in the development of new products and technologies to support the long term growth of the business.

  • Refines current products to improve operational efficiency and gross margin. Leads efforts in continuous improvement with the goal of reducing customer, consumer complaints and factory waste.

  • Works with purchasing to develop strategy to ensure security of supply for new vendors and alternate raw materials.

  • Provides leadership in solving research problems and implementing timely solutions. Provides guidance and coaching to junior staff. Drives team engagement.

  • Continually evaluates best practices and works to establish and implement new processes within the VMS R&D organization as applicable

Requirements:

  • BS in Food Science, Chemistry or related scientific discipline.

  • Highly seasoned technical professional with 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • 5+ years of supervisory or managerial experience preferred.
