Role Summary

Responsible for systematically assessing, analyzing, organizing, synthesizing and presenting on capabilities, workflows and standards related to the sustainability and environmental impact of Church & Dwight’s mission. The ideal candidate is highly organized, knows how to multitask and thrives in a fast-paced work environment with a keen sense of intuition toward rapidly evolving business needs.

Drives and supports global product stewardship activities and tracks and reports progress towards public and internal goals through the application of analysis & project management capabilities while working collaboratively across the organization, customer, supplier and other key stakeholder boundaries. Coordinates, fulfills and reports key aspects for a broad range of global sustainability and stewardship activities aligned with a variety of stakeholder requests. Serves as primary Corporate functional interface with all relevant industry trade associations and supplier collaborations.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead Corporate strategic framework for Global Product Ingredient Communications to insure effective compliance with rapidly evolving regulatory and Retailer/consumer requirements

  • Project planning & reporting: Create reports to track progress quarterly for key sustainability/stewardship activities aligned and agreed to by the Corporate Issues Council (CIC)

  • Assists in development and facilitation of systems/capabilities to effectively manage product stewardship requirements and seeks to improve systems where possible

  • Support CIC activities and assist in facilitation/execution of associated “request” process to insure timely management and response to externally derived requests within scope

  • Interface regularly with product formulation chemists to insure SDS and WERCS-related matters are being handled as required. Provide ongoing metrics monitoring to evaluate and recommend areas for improvement

  • Manage customer/retailer facing activities related to product stewardship, sustainability and corporate social responsibility (surveys, questionnaires, etc.)

  • Lead reporting requirements for existing internal & customer level reporting; support agenda building and organizing internal, customer level reporting

  • Work with peer group to optimize and leverage supplier resources

  • Create and present compelling, evidence-based written and visual summaries of analysis for both internal and external audiences

  • Work with a cross-functional team and assist in the development of a comprehensive set of attributes for evaluating the sustainability of the business operations and supplier relationships; translate our performance on these attributes into consumer-facing scorecards and materials

  • Regularly benchmark performance and progress toward sustainability goals

  • Identify and research possible opportunities to improve the sustainable business practices with emphasis on GNPI (product/packaging) development

  • Assist with special projects such as preparing analysis for conferences, creating content cooperatively with Marketing, participating in supplier due diligence, etc.

  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration with all of CHD business areas that relate to sustainability activities

Education and Experience

  • BS or MS degree from an accredited institution preferably in Chemistry with supplemental Environmental Sciences and Sustainability education a plus. Minimum of 7+ years experience working in a related professional environment.

  • Extensive Experience working with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including retailers, NGO’s, and trade associations.

  • Experience with enterprise-wide sustainability system platforms/reporting, a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of current environmental sustainability legislation, technologies, competitive intelligence and mega/micro trends

  • Excellent analytic and project management skills—takes accountability via matrix management approach

  • Confident communicator, capable of interacting across organizational and cultural boundaries (both internal and external), up and down the management chain

  • Proactive approach to problem solving with emphasis on “range of outcomes”

  • Ability to work under pressure, responding to immediate requirements as well as planned activities. Meeting deadlines while working with ambiguity a must!

  • Proficient with MS office suite of products with strong Excel and database management capabilities, including product-specific systems (SDS, Agile, etc.)

  • Passion for driving sustainability achievements while leading by example

  • Ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative tasks with speed and accuracy, including collection and management of data

  • Understanding of sustainability principles, issues and the methods with which sustainability can be integrated into business operations

  • Ability to deal with issues included under the sustainability umbrella – product sustainability, carbon accounting, corporate responsibility, community involvement, human rights, sustainable supply chain management, risk, etc.
