Job Summary

Legal Counsel works in collaboration with the McKesson Canada business leaders to ensure compliance with applicable local, provincial, and federal laws governing the organization’s operations with the goal of mitigating legal risk and safeguarding the company’s assets.

Section A – Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and practical legal advice as it relates to the corporation's day-to-day business and operational activities;

  • Conducts legal and regulatory research in support of business initiatives;

  • Acts as legal advisor on strategic business transactions , including the negotiation of a broad range of commercial agreements involving complex legal matters and multiple stakeholders;

  • Acts as legal advisor for corporate mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures or other strategic partnerships;

  • Ensures that the company’sassets and reputation are protected in all transactions and actively mitigates any risk thereto;

  • Conducts legal risk assessments for proposed business and operational decisions and collaborates with business leaders to mitigate any risks to stakeholders;

  • Develops and maintains a strong proficiency in the interpretation and application of regulations related to the distribution and sale of pharmaceutical products and remains abreast of all new industry-related regulatory and legal developments

  • Provides training on new or emerging legal, regulatory and compliance issues to other employees;

  • Participates in cross-functional initiatives and projects, such as impact assessments related to new legislation, service offerings or products;

  • Monitors company compliance with legal and administrative policies, rules, regulations and laws and ensures that company conducts its business ethically at all times.

Section B – Position Requirements

  • University Law degree and Member of the Quebec or Ontario Bar,

  • 4 to 6 years corporate, commercial or M&A experience acquired in-house and/or in private practice;

  • Relevant experience in the health or retail sectors as well as familiarity with regulated environments an asset;

  • Proven leadership ability, effective communication and interpersonal skills capable of functioning effectively in an environment with increasingly complex legal challenges;

  • Strong work organization skills with sound decision-making skills,

  • Maintains levels of communication with all levels of the organization and across various business segments.

  • Ability to lead work in a cross functional environment and with people at various levels of the organization

  • Capable of influencing the decision-making process

  • Bilingual (French and English) combined with excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Proficiency in MS Office skills – Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
