As a postdoctoral research fellow in Merck Research Labs Biostatistics and Research Decision Sciences (BARDS) based in Rahway, NJ or Upper Gwynedd, PA, you will work with a highly collaborative team of quantitative scientists on a focused research project to design, develop and evaluate statistical models for benefit-risk (BR) analysis in patient subgroups identified using novel data-driven approaches. This work will enable better understanding of BR profiles of target subpopulations to deliver improved treatment strategies. The position provides the incumbent an alternative to the traditional academic postdoctoral research fellowships, with an advantage and an opportunity to gain direct industry experience during the two-year period.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Based on real clinical trial data, carry out simulations to address realistic scenarios/issues identified as relevant for BR subgroup analysis
Develop expertise in Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and win ratio methods to address multiple and potentially conflicting criteria, differing perspectives, and uncertainty
Develop expertise in statistical learning including clustering and Principal Component Analysis to identify patient characteristics to treatment response
Develop expertise in visual analytics to develop appropriate visual/graphical displays to support the interpretation and to aid decision-making
Develop and maintain good working relationship with internal and external experts in the field
Education Minimum Requirement:
- PhD with less than 3 years of postdoctoral experience OR achieved a PhD by Summer of 2019
Required Experience and Skills:
- Experience and willingness to work in a global cross-functional team
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Strong statistical coding skills with the ability to develop statistical methods, simulations and applications on real life data in R and/or SAS
Skilled in statistical modeling
Experience with, and awareness of the issues surrounding subgroup analysis in drug development lifecycle
Knowledge of and familiarity with the regulatory requirements of benefit-risk assessment
Experience with statistical approaches to dynamic treatment allocation and individualized treatment regimes (ITRs)
Excellent writing skills with strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
