Oracle Marketing Cloud (more details below) is looking for Director of User Research to setup and lead the User Research program. This position reports into the VP of user experience for Oracle Marketing Cloud (OMC).

Responsibilities

Your primary role as you come in would be to set up the user research program,

  1. Hire best of breed user researchers.

  2. Manage, mentor and coach the researchers.

  3. Set up best practices and define user research studies during the entire lifecycle of product development. E.g usability studies, task scenario studies, card sorting, diary studies etc

  4. Partner with Designers and Product managers to identify gaps in designs or features by running formative and evaluative user research studies.

  5. Help develop user personas, identify use cases, understand user behaviors that help improve our products.

  6. Plan and execute user studies to gain insights that would directly impact product design.

  7. Help define metrics to evaluate designs and user experience of our products

  8. Identify the best way to recruit users to participate in user studies and if required, develop and maintain a database of users for various products in OMC.

  9. Be the voice and advocate of our users to represent their best interest.

Ideal Background that will help you succeed in this role

  • Masters or PhD degree in Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Anthropology or related field.

  • 8 years of experience as a hands-on user researcher

  • At least 4 years of experiences in building and managing a team of 3-5 user researchers

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (including study plans, usability study reports, user research “big picture synthesis” presentations)

  • End-to-end experience with all aspects of research (study design, recruiting, moderating, analysis, & reporting)

  • You should have strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • You should be a strong presenter and a story teller

  • Experience in Enterprise products is preferred

  • Experience with Quantitative research will be an added advantage

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
