The Master Customer Profile SaaS team at Oracle is committed on enabling our customer experience (CX) SaaS components to provide the most interactive, richest experience possible to our customers. This team builds and manages Oracle Data Platform that powers our Customer Data Platform. We bring together huge amounts of data from different sources and consolidate it into a single, smart view of the customer and their activities, preferences and behaviors. Come join us in working with the rest of the Oracle Data teams and Big Data technologies (Java, HDFS, Zookeeper, Kafka, Spark, etc.) an cloud native SaaS (Kubernetes, Distributed Microservices and massively scalable data systems - think billions of events a second) to fulfill our vision.
As an engineering leader, you will manage a team of engineers, technical leads. designers and architects responsible for designing, implementing and running our core data platform. You will be responsible for hiring and retaining the best data engineers and helping guide the technical direction of the platform. You will pave the path to deliver world-class autonomous infrastructure for automatically scaling and growing our cloud.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 7 years of engineering management experience in distributed computing, with a preference for big-data related technologies. In this role, you will have the opportunity of working in a team of top-notch engineers to deliver world class software. You should come prepared to learn a lot and help define and drive initiatives in a strong team that is helping Oracle become the #1 cloud provider in the world.
What you’ll do
Build and lead a team of highly-engaged engineers by hiring, coaching and instilling a sense of ownership and impact
Own the vision and technical roadmap for the data platform team by working with leads, product management teams, and partners across the company
Work collaboratively across geo-graphically distributed scrum teams for delivering features that delight customers and drive innovation
Lead large, cross-functional projects for complex product development initiatives
Collaborate with product managers, designers, consumers and other cross-team stakeholders to collect, understand and solve problems
Manage processes and use your technical expertise to continually improve the team and ensure your team achieves extraordinary results
Champion inclusion and foster a strong team culture of ownership within teams
What you need to have
7 years as an engineering leader managing technical teams in large scale distributed computing programs
7 years of experience as a software engineer
Experience hiring and growing engineers and designers
Enjoy coming up with pragmatic solutions to problems using first principles thinking
Experience with complex distributed systems deployed at scale
Passionate about coaching and leading other engineers and willing to get elbow deep in code
Experience working with modern data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka)
Experience with machine learning technologies like pytorch, keras, xgboost
Experience with modern cloud platforms
What the perfect candidate will have
Previous Director level or Sr. Engineering leadership level experience directly in an cloud engineering organization
Very strong organizational leadership skills able to build credibility, respect and trust at all levels of the organization
Great mentor and coach
Deep sense of ownership and responsibility for delivering cloud products to millions of users worldwide
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.
Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
