Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Set-up the bleeding area, at least 15 minutes, prior to the Plant shift start.

  • Extract blood from unborn calves in accordance with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s standard operating procedures. The Blood Collector II is responsible for fully training new employees prior to allowing to work independently, if applicable.

  • At all times, the Blood Collector II must follow the Thermo Fisher Scientific and assigned Plant safety procedures. The required (PPE) Personal Protection Equipment must be worn at all times when working inside the Plant. The Blood Collector II is responsible for following all the Plant food and safety policies at all times. We are contractors working inside their facilities and must adhere to their rules and regulations.

  • The Blood Collector II is required to remain at the Plant in the collection area for the entire shift. As contractors working inside the Plant we don’t have access to the entire Plant, only our collection area. A lunch break is required and should be coordinated with Plant production and collection workflow.

  • The Blood Collector II prepares the daily paperwork for fetal blood production, packs product in coolers, and ships coolers using FedEx to an offsite raw processing facility(if applicable). Provide the tracking number(s) on the Fetal Bovine Blood Cooler Shipping Manifest &/or Blood Receipt. Scan or Fax a copy to the raw processing lab before shipping. Contact a Supervisor if there are any delays. The Blood Collector II is responsible for ensuring a Blood Collector I is trained for coverage purposes.

  • Perform clean-up duties throughout your shift as required. Leave your area clean at the end of your shift.

  • Blood Collector II will take inventory of all collection supplies, and fax to the Supervisor every Thursday by 5:00 pm Central Time. Must notify a Supervisor or raw processing facility immediately if a supply or piece of equipment is running low. The Blood Collector II is responsible for ensuring a Blood Collector I is trained and submits the report in their absence.

  • The Blood Collector II is responsible for faxing the Weekly Production Analysis Report to a Supervisor by Monday of the following week. The Blood Collector II is responsible for ensuring a Blood Collector I is trained and submits the report in their absence.

  • Weekly Time Sheets must be submitted via fax by Saturday every week. The Time Sheets must be faxed separately from any other daily paperwork and must follow the guidelines set forth in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Time Keeping Policy.

  • All PTO requests must be sent to a Manager/Supervisor for approval with at least 2 weeks’ notice. The Time Sheet(s) for approved vacations must be submitted prior to taking your time off.

  • Report any deviations or unusual occurrences of Standard Operating Procedures or Plant activity to a Supervisor immediately.

  • If you’re sick and cannot report to work you must first contact one of your colleague(s). If you cannot reach your colleague(s), contact your Supervisor immediately. A telephone call must be made within 1-hour of your regular start time. If your shift cannot be covered by a colleague(s) you must call your Supervisor back the 2nd time to report the plant is without coverage.

  • A Blood Collector II who works at double shift plants may be required to cover their colleague(s) shift when they are on PTO between 1-3 days.

  • Maintain a working relationship with the Plant management assigned to oversee the blood collection operation.

  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.


  • Prefer a High School diploma or GED


  • 1+ years of previous work experience in a meat packing facility.


  • Has contact with equivalent levels of company employees and external customers.

Working Conditions:

Works in a slaughterhouse environment. Depending on the location of the bleeding station within the slaughter facility, the work area may be noisy, strong pungent odors, warm (+90f); damp, and congested or constricted to a sealed work area. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 50 – 7 0 lbs. Must be able to work flexible around core hours 1st Shift: AM, 2nd Shift: PM and Split Shift: AM/PM.
