Kaiser Permanente Peer Review/Clinical Safety Specialist in Renton, Washington
The Peer Review/Clinical Safety Specialist facilitates the physician peer review program. This includes review of patient cases to determine compliance with best practices and/or peer review standards and recommending peer review where appropriate. This position also supports the Patient Safety team by performing clinical review of safety events and collaborating on root cause analysis for these events.
Performs concurrent and retrospective analysis of patient records for purposes of peer review performance. Investigates complaints related to clinical care by physicians/physician assistants and/or provider behavior. Uses criteria to triage and refer appropriate cases for provider credentialing and/or peer review. Facilitates peer review meetings and provides case summaries for physician reviewers. Inputs information into peer review database, identifies and evaluates appropriate metrics, and provides reports and analysis to medical leaders. Provides expert consultation to organizational leadership related to common themes, patterns, and concerns regarding peer review. Collaborates on development of organizational strategy to address systemic issues related to peer review. Reviews and recommends improvements on policy and procedural changes related to peer review.
Collaborates with Patient Safety Specialists on determination of safety event classification. Utilizes clinical expertise to perform thorough chart reviews and collaborates on root cause analysis. Trains and promotes principles of just culture and high reliability.
Minimum two (2) years of acute and/or ambulatory nursing experience.
Associate's degree in nursing.
License, Certification, Registration
Current Washington state RN license required upon hire/transfer.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers.
Ability to organize, synthesize, and convey data and information (writing skills).
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Ability to function as a team member.
Focused attention to details.
Three (3) years of acute and/or ambulatory nursing experience.
One (1) year of experience in peer review and/or patient safety.
Associate's degree in nursing with bachelor's in another field.
Bachelor's degree in nursing
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
Decisive and professional, with ability to exhibit patience and fairness under pressure, as well as the ability to mediate and resolve differing opinions.
Ability to work with peers in self-managed teams to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated knowledge of peer review processes and tools.
Ability to perform clinical reviews with critical thinking.
Familiarity with root cause analysis and safety event classification.
Knowledgeable in customer service principles and approaches to reliable service and care.
Working knowledge of accreditation and federal and state regulatory requirements.
