Job Description

The principal function of the System Engineer position is to provide a high quality, secure, and resilient hosting platform that supports the organization’s operational and business needs. Primary responsibilities include providing engineering support for the global enterprise hosting platform infrastructure with strong emphasis on designing and implementing highly available, reusable functionality to expand and/or modify enterprise infrastructure hosting platform capabilities/services.

Specific tasks include:

  • Apply industry/organizational best practices and supporting processes for the planning, analysis, design, and engineering of new or enhanced enterprise hosting platform capabilities and services.

  • Perform technical evaluations, analysis, and troubleshooting for all supported enterprise hosting platform infrastructure components (compute, storage, hypervisor, etc.). Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Analyze hosting platform capacity and throughput requirements in response to demand forecasts and operations trends to determine, plan, and provide hosting platform engineering capabilities/services to support existing and projected workloads.

  • Identify system integrity issues and solutions for the full system life cycle from concept to decommissioning. Provide staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as platform malfunctions and program problems. Answer questions/resolve hosting platform malfunctions/problems for

  • clients in person, via telephone, or using automated tools with remote access to system being evaluated.

  • Utilize PowerShell and/or other scripting languages to support virtualization and aggregation of the underlying physical hardware resources across multiple systems and virtual resources. Monitor managed enterprise infrastructure platforms to identify performance issues and ensure the overall system integrity.

  • Lead/participate in Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) to assist in resolving issues/concerns, as well as establishing/refining enterprise infrastructure engineering standards and procedures.

  • Conduct testing and integration of automation scripts and workflows needed to auto-build designed platforms, computer programs, and systems.

  • Understand and implement established enterprise infrastructure engineering technical/workflow procedures and the change management process.

  • Prepare technical engineering documentation, including both system-level and user-level documentation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

You will have the following:

  • Solid troubleshooting/support skills

  • Knowledgeable of networking hardware, protocols and administration, and system integration across multi-tiered highly secure IT environments

  • Strong experience with VMware technologies

  • Understanding of enterprise architectures and applications

  • Extensive experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell and/or JavaScript

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Experience with quality assurance, testing and validation processes.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasks while under pressure.

  • Ability to self-learn, act on own initiative and work in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

You may have the following, but it's not required:

  • Experience with VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

  • Experience deploying and configuring ESXi hosts using Auto Deploy and Host Profiles

  • Experience performing analysis of orchestration workflows with the vRealize Orchestrator, as well as using vRealize Orchestrator to build automation scripts and automation processes

  • Familiarity with vRealize Operations Manager (vROps)

  • Familiarity with vRealize Automation (vRA)

  • Experience with Windows Desktop Operating Systems (Win7, Win10).

  • Experience with Windows Server Operating Systems (2008R2, 2012R2, 2016).

  • Experience with storage technologies and protocols (iSCI, NFS, fibre channel)

  • Experience automating and deploying VMware components

  • Experience with Cisco UCS and Hewlett-Packard blade servers

  • Familiarity with REST/SOAP

  • ACL/permission management

  • Virtualization management

  • Familiarity with VDI technology (Citrix Presentation Server, Xen Desktop, XenApp)

  • Familiarity with Linux Server Operating Systems

  • Familiarity with Git and JIRA

  • PKI/Certificates (Netscape/RedHat)/SSL

  • Windows server diagnostics/troubleshooting


  • VMware certified professional-Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) or VMware Certified Professional-Network Virtualization (VCP-NV) or VMware Certified Professional-Cloud Management Automation (VCP-CMA)

  • MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) or MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional)

You will have one of the following:

  • 12 Years of job related experience and High School/GED diploma

  • 10 Years of job related experience and Associate degree

  • 8 Years of job related experience and Bachelor’s degree

  • 6 Years of job related experience and Master’s degree

  • 4 Years of job related experience and Doctorate


Day shift with core hours 9am to 3pm
