Job Description

In this role as a Senior Test Engineer you will be responsible for developing and executing software test plans in an Agile environment to identify software problems and their causes. You will be responsible for ensuring that the test design and documentation support all applicable client, Sponsor’s or industry standards time lines and requirements. You will also be responsible for ensuring that testing conclusions and recommendations are fully supported by test results, and project managers are fully informed of testing status and application deviations from documented user requirements. The test engineer will also prepare milestone status reports and deliveries/presentations on the system test and evaluation concept to management, colleagues, developers, and end user representatives.

This role will also have the following responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis of documented user requirements and design of test plans in support of user requirements for software or IT systems.

  • Review user application system requirements documentation.

  • Design, define, and document unit and application test plans.

  • Direct and/or participate in all phases of risk management assessments and software/hardware solution engineering and development with emphasis on analysis of user requirements, test design and test tools selection.

  • Coordinate with team members to ensure problem solution, appropriate risk reduction and user satisfaction.

  • Make recommendations on test and evaluation strategies for major systems installations.

  • Estimate software testing schedule for each assigned project within the Agile environment.

  • Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments.

  • Design and implement test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures.

  • Develop or specific standards, methods, and procedures to determine product quality or release readiness.

  • Develop testing programs that address area such as database impacts, software scenarios, interface testing, regression testing, negative results testing, error or bug tests and retest, and customer and administrator usability.

  • Document test procedures to ensure replicability and compliance with standards.

  • Evaluate or recommend software for testing or bug tracking to include test automation where applicable.

  • Assist with the standup and maintenance of the test automation environment, particularly for the regression testing activities.

  • Identify program deviance from standards and suggest modifications to ensure compliance.

  • Identify, analyze, and document problems with function, output, online screen, or content.

  • Install, maintain, and use software testing (manual and automated) programs.

  • Participate in product design and sprint planning sessions to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems as associated with the test cycle.

  • Perform initial debugging procedures by reviewing configuration files, logs, database, or code pieces to determine breakdown source.

  • Plan test schedules using quantifiable processes and strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates.

  • Provide feedback and recommendations to developers on software usability and functionality.

  • Perform regression testing after deployment to verify success.

  • Create and/or update automated test scripts to ensure currency.

  • Coordinate user or third-party testing.

  • Conduct historical analyses of test results.

  • Provide technical support during software installation or configuration related to testing.

  • Review software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, or completeness, and to mitigate risks.

  • Validate with the developer that source code is following established development processes such as in source documentation and program name/version number.

You will have the following:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience testing application software/systems.

  • Ability to translate customer or systems requirements into test cases.

  • Hands on experience with Test Tools, (e.g. ALM, UFT, LoadRunner, WinRunner).

  • Proven ability to conduct manual and automated testing against test plans.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Aptitude to learn and understand new software and systems.

  • Knowledge of technologies such as Windows, Linux, Java, Borne Shell Scripting.

  • Proven experience testing in an Agile environment.

  • 12 Years of job-related experience and High School/GED diploma

  • 10 Years of job-related experience and Associate degree

  • 8 Years of job-related experience and Bachelor’s degree

  • 6 Years of job-related experience and Master’s degree

  • 4 Years of job-related experience and Doctorate

It would be nice if you had the following:

  • Experience with Project Management Control Gates

  • Experience with Security Documentation

  • Experience migrating from a manual to an automated testing environment

  • Knowledge of PKI, LDAP, SQL
