Job Description

As the Test Engineer you will operate as a system tester and must have excellent software testing and communication skills. You will be motivated and must be able to perform independently.

The Test Engineer should be able to develop manual test cases and test procedures, as well as automated test scripts. The Test Engineer must have a strong background in manual and functional testing and be able to solve problems through creative thinking.

Specific RESPONSIBILITIES include:

  • Perform operations and maintenance and enhancement testing.

  • Analyze business requirements and technical specifications.

  • Create and maintain test plans that define test methods, approach, and tools.

  • Develop test cases, test procedures, and requirements traceability matrices.

  • Ensure all test environments are setup to meet test objectives.

  • Perform software system testing, end-to-end testing, regression testing, and automated testing.

  • Execute the application's automation test suite, troubleshooting failures and script issues.

  • Document test results, and compile results of other testers into consolidated reports.

  • Create test discrepancy reports and track them to resolution.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on software functionality and business processes.

Prepare milestone status reports and deliveries/presentations on the system test and evaluation concept to colleagues, subordinates, and end user representatives.

  • Previous software testing experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience with the standard software development lifecycle.

  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining a professional demeanor.

  • Ability to be a team player and to collaborate with project team members.

  • Perform analysis of documented user requirements and directs or assists in the design of test plans in support of user requirements for software or IT systems.

  • Review user application system requirements documentation.

  • Design, define and document unit and application test plans.

  • Transform test plans into test scripts and executes those scripts.

  • Make recommendations, if needed, on test and evaluation strategies for major systems installations.

  • Estimate software-testing costs and schedule.

  • Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments.

  • Create or maintain databases of known test defects.

  • Design test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures.

  • Develop or specify standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness.

  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability.

  • Document software defects, using a bug tracking system, and report defects to software developers.

  • Monitor bug resolution efforts and track successes.

  • Document test procedures to ensure replicability and compliance with standards.

  • Identify program deviance from standards, and suggest modifications to ensure compliance.

  • Identify, analyze, and document problems with program function, output, online screen, or content.

  • Investigate customer problems referred by technical support.

  • Monitor program performance to ensure efficient and problem-free operations.

  • Participate in product design reviews to provide input on functional requirements, product designs, schedules, or potential problems.

  • Perform initial debugging procedures by reviewing configuration files, logs, or code pieces to determine breakdown source.

  • Plan test schedules or strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates.

  • Provide feedback and recommendations to developers on software usability and functionality.

  • Test system modifications to prepare for implementation.

  • Collaborate with field staff or customers to evaluate or diagnose problems and recommend possible solutions.

  • Coordinate user or third party testing.

  • Conduct historical analyses of test results.

  • Review software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, or completeness, or to mitigate risks.

Education:

Candidate must have one of the following:

  • 12 Years of job related experience and High School/GED diploma

  • 10 Years of job related experience and Associate degree

  • 8 Years of job related experience and Bachelor’s degree

  • 6 Years of job related experience and Master’s degree

  • 4 Years of job related experience and Doctorate

You may have the following:

  • Automated testing experience, specifically Selenium development.

  • SQL query creations against Oracle databases.

  • Agile development experience.

  • Direct and/or participate in risk management assessments and software/hardware development with emphasis on analysis of user requirements, test design, and test tools selection.

  • Design or develop automated testing tools.

  • Evaluate or recommend software for testing or bug tracking.

  • Install and configure re-creations of software production environments to allow testing of software performance.

  • Install, maintain, and use software testing programs.

  • Update automated test scripts to ensure currency.

  • Visit beta testing sites to evaluate software performance.
