SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS***1. Coordinates additions and changes for the Clinical laboratory information system with IT&S Laboratory Information System (LIS) Staff, including decision-making, response to problems, identification of errors, and takes corrective action. Provides technical/consultative expertise within the department at all facilities within the market.
**2. Actively participates in continuing education of staff and documentation of such education. Assists other Technical Managers with developing and maintaining departmental competencies for all employees. Develops and implements training for the Clinical Laboratory pertaining to the Laboratory Information System and Informatics.
**3. Provides a resource for data retrieval for purposes of lookbacks, billing, statistical review and procedural changes.
**4. Maintains Laboratory HIPPA Hitech data for the Clinical Laboratory.
**5. Maintains and cultivates a good communication network to include Laboratory leadership and staff, pathologists, and market Laboratory support services. Demonstrates appreciation for the priority of meeting/exceeding customer expectations, including patients, clients, physicians and nursing staff. Provides a productive atmosphere. Supports the Hospital and Laboratory administrative teams. Displays effective leadership skills and talents.
**6. Demonstrates innovation and creativity. Responds to changes in clinical laboratory medicine and the healthcare environment. Remains current on new innovations and practices pertaining to the department.
**7. Serves as a resource for staff. Manages and shares daily workload as needed. Uses time wisely. Delegates tasks and plans for succession.
**8. Develops, writes, reviews, and implements procedures and policies. Prepares for inspections at all facilities. Prepares reports as needed. Demonstrates efficiency in all computer related tasks.
**9. Addresses department efficiencies from both a facility and a market perspective. Balances consolidation opportunities with facility specific service needs. Remains focused on the effectiveness of the entire operation.
**10. Motivates and educates staff to challenge traditional operational methods, i.e., scheduling, processes, etc.
**11. Controls departmental expenses appropriately. Forecasts budgetary needs (operating and capital) appropriately.
**12. Review and manage the maintenance of the instrument performance records, quality control and appropriate documentation in conjunction with departmental team leaders/supervisors. Troubleshoots instruments effectively, when appropriate.
**13. Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.
**14. Understands/respects laboratory billing compliance plan. Adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan. Attends annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training. Respects and protects patient confidentiality.
*15. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Required - 4 years Medical Technology or computer related application experience minimum 2 years supervisory experience
Preferred - 4 years Medical Technology 3 years supervisory experience, in designated section with HCA Meditech experience
Required - Associate or Bachelor degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, or computer related applications.
Preferred - Bachelor of Science degree, Medical Technology & additional education or experience relating to informatics
CERTIFICATIONRequired- None. Preferred- MLT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) or equivalent. Registry/Licensure in a specialty area will be considered. Continuing education to maintain registry/licensure is required.
