Johnston-Willis Hospital

We are a 292-bed acute care hospital , located in the upbeat, North Chesterfield area, a short drive from Chesterfield Town Center, offering an abundance of restaurants and shops. Our hospital offers a full range of healthcare services, with specialties in inpatient rehabilitation, cancer care in coordination with the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, emergency care via our level III trauma center, and neuroscience, including our Gamma Knife Center. For more than 100 years, we have been building healthy communities in the Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities area.

Specific Elements and Essential Functions * Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records.

  • Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.

  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention. Performs a complete physical exam and records findings.

  • Administers injections, immunizations and oral medications. Sutures wounds. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.

  • Provides patient education. Interview and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.

  • Assists physicians by recording patient progress notes, issues diagnostic orders, and transcribes orders.

  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.

  • Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.

  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.

  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”

  • Other duties as assigned
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and medical care to give and evaluate patient care.

  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.

  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.

  • Ability to assess medical conditions and interpret findings.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Ability to communicate clearly.

• Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience :

• One year clinical experience preferred.


• Nurse Practitioner License of Practicing State


• Primarily weekend shift coverage, with some weekday shifts on occasion.
