Job Description

We need a highly responsible, creative IT security professional to test our diverse IT systems to destruction. You’ll be part of a small team within a bigger global CyberDefence department that plays an indispensable role in keeping a global business secure and functional, day in, day out. There’s great scope to stretch your skills.

What’s the role?

In this disruptive, creative role, you’ll be an ethical hacker. Thinking like a hacker would, looking from the outside in, you’ll test the security of our IT infrastructure by trying your very best to compromise it. Our systems are as broad as our business, so your work (including Operational Pen Tests) could stretch across 7500 applications that touch teams all over the globe; part of your role will be to determine which ones are most prone to penetration.

Obviously, you need to bring order and professionalism to your work. We’ll trust you to classify and report on hacks and to challenge our teams to get security flaws closed. You’ll make sure that they do this to tight timescales, making it clear that the higher the vulnerability, the more urgent the fix.

You’ll need to be resilient enough to deal with pushback from the business who may see your findings as a hinderance, not a help. That said, it is a vital role, so your contribution will be highly valued and widely recognised. Part of a small ‘hunting’ team who work in Houston, the Netherlands and Bangalore, you’ll have great scope to move your career forward and develop your skills here.

What we need from you

We’re keen to hear from men and women with considerable IT security experience and ideally, time spent in attack and penetration testing, ethical hacking or technical IT audits. An expert in IP networks and operating systems (Windows; Unix/Linux), you’ve almost certainly carried out technical penetration testing on IT infrastructure, web applications, mobile platforms and “red teaming”.

If you’re creative, responsible and enjoy using your analytical flair to crack technical challenges, you’ll be in your element working here. Personally, we’re looking for natural communication skills, in person and in writing – you’ll need to be able to connect as well with industry experts as you do with non-technical colleagues.

Technically, experience with any of the following would be useful:

  • tcpdump, wireshark, nmap, nessus, Metasploit

  • commercial tools such as Rapid7, Quallys

  • Programming languages such as Perl, Python, C, C++, VBS, Java

  • Analytical and reporting tools such as Excel, SharePoint and preferably Splunk

  • Any certifications such as CISSP or SANS and, ideally: GIAC Penetration Tester (GPEN); SEC 560 - Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking; SEC 542 - Web App Penetration Testing and Ethical
