Legal Counsel (Senior Lawyer) - Trading

Professional, timely, cost-effective and practical legal advice and support to Trading & Shipping (T&S) business in Brazil, covering crude oil, gas and power trading activities.
Advice and support to all power trading activities in Brazil;
Ability to support gas evacuation and monetization initiatives, including gas to power and LNG/regasification terminals projects;
Ability to support projects and businesses in South America;
Proactively identify legal risks and alternative strategies in a defined area;
Ensure documents reflect accurately commercial decisions, at all times consistent with legal obligations and the Shell Group Control Framework;
Represent Shell Brasil vis-à-vis third parties;
Instruct and manage external counsel under the supervision of more senior legal counsel;
Assist and support the Shell Brasil Litigation team regarding the background and business dimensions in contentious proceedings (litigation, arbitration, mediation).

Skills and Requirements:
Relevant working experience with a top Brazilian law firm or multinational corporation present in Brazil.
Solid knowledge of the Brazil Energy market (mainly in trading and generation businesses), including gas to power and new energy initiatives.
Knowledge of the Brazilian power regulatory framework, including CCEE rules and regulations.
Experience in contract analysis and negotiation related to the marketing of power and related products in the Brazilian power market. Additional experience in other commodities commonly used in the Brazilian energy market would be an asset.
Knowledge of domestic and regional gas monetization initiatives, including LNG infrastructure projects, is preferred.
Understanding of the main legal areas relevant to international commodities trading and regulatory regimes.
Understanding of some of the main legal areas relevant to the natural gas and LNG market.
Ability to draft with appropriate understanding and interpretation of commercial intentions.
Exposure to international civil and/or common law contracts.
Ability to work on a number of issues in parallel.
Ability to develop and sustain relationships with clients at all levels and in a range of cultures.
Ability to understand and take account of business drivers and needs.
Able to give a clear exposition of a legal issue and to provide succinct accurate and comprehensible legal advice.
Knowledge and experience to identify critical Legal risks.
Understanding of the Shell Group structure and the Shell Group Control Framework.
Attention to detail, autonomous and hands on.
Fluent in Portuguese and English language, both spoken and written. Spanish fluency would be a plus.
Strong academic background and capable of applying jurisprudence in real situations.
Knowledge of the main legal areas relevant to the oil and gas industry, especially in relation to Energy sector.
Influencing, negotiating and facilitation skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and with both internal and external stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds.
Flexible self-starter with pro-active mindset, able to anticipate and identify legal issues, with small supervision
Good verbal and written communication skills and good drafting skills.
Law degree and professional legal qualification.
Occasional domestic and international travel may be required. Monthly travels to São Paulo are required.
This individual must be self-motivated, self-directed, able to prioritise workload and to work both independently and as a member of a team, while at the same time knowing when to seek advice from his or her line manager or more senior colleagues.
This individual must be strategic (flexible and able to prioritise) with respect to supporting dynamic and growing businesses within Shell Trading and Supply.
