Basic Functions Revisestranslated texts to assess the appropriateness of the target language content for purpose and domain and to evaluate the accuracy of the content and its compliance with the text-type conventions. Responsible for supervising the revisers to ensuresystematic and recurring translationrevisionthat produces the highest degree of consistency, quality, andsuitability of the content to the domain and text-type conventions. Responsible for improving documents’ language flow and readability without losing the meaning of the original text.Responsible for makingsure that all translated files are revised and all instructions are applied according to clients’ requirements.Responsible for makingsure that all revised files are reviewed and all terms applied according to the text domain and clients’ preferences requirements.Preforms revising and reviewing to ensure high-quality Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) translations for the Translation Branch (TB). Teaches, Coaches and Mentors to raise Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of TB members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

A. Duties/responsibilities:

1.Reviews translated texts to assess the appropriateness of the target language content for the domain and the text-type conventions.

2.Supervises the revisers to insureconsistency, quality, andcompliance with the text-type conventions.

3.Checksthe processes of revising and reviewing to make sure that instructions are applied according to clients’ requirements.

  1. Prepares high-quality translations and revision by executing Quality Assurance and Control Quality (QACQ) processes.

  2. Executes translation and revision in accordance with production objectives; performs to the production schedule baselines established by TB.

6.Performs all aspects of QACQ to ensure that translation and/or revision meets quality requirements.

  1. Ensures products are ready for Proofreading.

  2. As directed or required will oversee other translators and editors by monitoring, auditing, and overseeing all aspects of the translation process.

  3. Incorporates all aspects of Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) System (SDL TRADOS) technology and integrates the machine capabilities with manual translation.

  4. Analyzes translation data, synthesizes the impact on the process, recommends and implements corrective actions as required; identifies the root causes of poor performance and recommends necessary changes.

  5. Facilitates all aspects of translation and revision processes by reporting translation and revision status.

  6. Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of operational plans.

  7. Assesses revision quality.

  8. Provides accurate feedback on revised documents.

  9. Uses translation memories, term bases and specialized dictionaries and glossaries to ensure the consistency of revised materials.

  10. Evaluates the assigned reviser in all aspects.

  11. Assists in identifying and resolving operational and procedural problems.

  12. Responsible for Knowledge Management, data backup, and protection.

  13. Responsible for implementation and compliance with Vinnell Arabia (VA) policies and standing operating procedures (SOPs).

B. Independence: Act under the direct supervision of General Translation Section Manager.

C. Supervisory Responsibilities:As assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A. Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in translation is required, Master’s degree in a language-related discipline is highly desired. A degree in any other field from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum of 2 years of full time professional experience in translation, or five years of full time professional experience in translation may substitute.

B. Experience: A minimumof two years’ experience as a senior reviser (in addition to the experience required above for non-English translation bachelor’s holders) is a must.Previous supervisory experience with translators is highly desired. Previous military service is preferred.

C. Specific Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements: Fluency in both English and Arabic languages is required.Superb knowledge of all facets of Arabic language (i.e. spelling, grammar, and syntax) is required. Detailed knowledge of Arabic military and technical terminology is highly desired. Knowledge of SDL Trados is required.Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.Must possess the ability to organize, plan and report projects and theability to meet deadlines requirements. Must have excellent time management skills. Must be a good critical thinker and problem solver.

D. Must possess the ability to revise an average rate of 3,500 words per day.
