Basic Functions ​Responsible for providing training advice, assistance, and evaluation to the Battalions in planning, programming and coordinating operations, training and gunnery programs. Advises assists and evaluates all assigned units in training, doctrine and operations and Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) unique requirements.

Major Duties and Responsibilities ​A. Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts evaluations of the unit's ability to perform battle focused tasks.

  2. Assist the Battalion S-3 in planning, preparation and conduct of Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Gunnery Training on Light Armored Vehicle gun systems.

  3. Assist the Battalion S-3 in development of programs to retrain weaknesses following sustainment training.

  4. Assists the Battalion S-3 in identifying and coordinating training resources.

  5. Assists the Battalion S-3 in the coordination, planning and execution of Situational Training Exercises (STXs)' and Field Training Exercises (FTXs)' and LAV gunnery.

  6. Assists three Company Commanders in planning and coordination of all tactical, gunnery and security tasks/ missions.

  7. Prepares and submits training related reports.

  8. Performs other tasks as required.

B. Independence: Works under close supervision of the Chief Trainer Gunnery and Tactics.

C. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises 1 Interpreter/Translator.

Minimum Qualifications ​A. Education Level: High School Graduate. Advanced Leaders/Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course Required; Senior Leaders/Advance Course Graduate preferred. US Army Armor or Infantry Master Gunner Course Graduate required. An equivalent combination of college level courses, military and job site experience may be substituted.

B. Experience: Six years of training and operations experience in US Military heavy battalion/brigade. Two years as Master Gunner of a company/battalion or higher. Related experience in Bradley/LAV-25 Gunnery Programs.

C. Specific knowledge, skill, and ability, requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of current US Army Tactics, Training Doctrine, and gunnery programs. Possess a valid driver's license. Be Computer literate. Former SSG or above required; SFC or above preferred.
