Thermo Fisher Scientific Director, Finance, Laboratory Plastics Essentials Global Operations in Rochester, New York
How will you make an impact?
The Director of Finance, Laboratory Plastics Essentials (LPE) Global Operations is a key member of financial leadership team supporting the Laboratory Plastics Essentials business. This person will be a business partner to the LPE Global Operations leader. The position will be based in Rochester, NY and will report directly to the Senior Director of Finance, Laboratory Plastics Essentials.
What will you do?
Scope of Responsibilities
General Accounting, controls, and compliance including rep letter responsibility and liaison with shared services operations managed by GBS (Global Business Services), local cash and payroll management
Reporting, Budgeting, forecasting of all site financials including manufacturing finance, SG&A, and all other expenses that run through these sites
Direct sites include:
Rochester, Roskilde, Ashford, Newport, Joensuu, St. Petersburg, Monterrey, Tijuana, Petaluma, San Diego, Auburn
Own the operations network in partnership with LPE Global Operations leader
Be a vocal voice at the table and an active participant with the LPE operations and BU staff level
Be a proxy for the operations leader as needed
Create a culture of commercial partnership within our sites to drive business growth by leveraging expertise in site capacity and capability
Create a team that drives site level empowerment and success by pairing controllers & site leaders with common goals and priorities with a focus on execution and results
Create a reporting structure with sufficient spans and layers to provide a broad span of control, but with adequate bandwidth to drive process improvement and business oversight
Continuously assess talent and team structure to ensure the right skillset, bandwidth and structure is in place to optimize business partnership and results
Drive standardization of financial goals, specific points of accountability, reporting design and cadence across sites
Leverage Manufacturing finance fundamentals including spend, absorption, production variances, and period costs to provide a focus on operations.
De-emphasize manufacturing operations focus on Gross Profit, transfer pricing, and inter-company vs 3rd party sales mix
Ensure reconciliation of operations performance - including productivity scorecard - with P&L via EBITA bridge standard corporate reporting

Develop standard work that provides visibility, insight, and forward looking decision support by leveraging / creating systems expertise in ERP’s (various), Global consolidation tool (HFM/ CMR), data standardization, and BI tools (COGNOS, Power BI, Hyperion Planning, other)

Drive accountability of results, and real time RCCM engagement at all relevant control points
Own cost accounting across multiple ERP’s to ensure appropriate valuation of inventory; partner with engineering, sourcing and supply chain to develop reliable annual standard costs; provide analytics to interpret key cost drivers and remedial actions required; provide clear insight on machine hours produced and sold as well as absorption of related costs
Create alignment between operations KPIs, operations tier meetings, and financial performance vs AOP and forecasts
Advance the definition of, and finance partnership in, SIOP across the network.
Provide business partnering support and analytics to the LPE Supply Chain leader
Leverage best practices from across the corporation around inventory management, SIOP process
Partner – Supply Chain, GBS (Global Business Services)
Stabilize accounting operations with FSSI ensuring compliance with corporate policy, inclusive of

An undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is required; an MBA or CPA is strongly desired
An ideal candidate will possess excellent academic credentials and a strong aptitude in financial analysis
Experience in the Life Sciences industry is desired
He/she should have a minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible business experience
Experience in a global manufacturing organization is desired
Strong knowledge of Excel (i.e., financial models and analysis), Cognos reporting tool (or equivalent), PowerPoint, and Hyperion is preferred
