The Associate Investment Analyst position is within the Advisory Services Group (ASG) of Wells Fargo Advisors. WIM Equity Research Analysts share a commitment to our clients’ investment success and satisfaction. From a top down perspective, we provide clear prescriptive advice regarding how portfolios should be allocated within each equity sector depending on our view of the market cycle.

We also manage several thematic recommended lists to fit most risk suitability profiles. Our investment philosophy can vary depending on investment style; however, the common core within this bottom up approach is companies that have a competitive advantage supported by quality management and appropriate financial strength.

The Associate Investment Analyst is responsible for supporting a team of Equity Research Analysts who provide timely, well-supported investment advice on equity securities to retail advisors by communicating guidance/advice through telephone conversations, audio & video commentary and written summaries.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Building charts in Microsoft excel and power point presentations to support the distribution of advice

  • Generating multiple reports utilizing third-party data sources

  • Responding to ad-hoc inquiries and data requests from various parties

  • Collaborating with individual analysts to understand current viewpoints

  • Developing investment models to determine appropriate valuations and maintain/build databases to facilitate stock selection process

  • Researching of individual securities to isolate critical variables and formulate sound investment advice by gathering, reading and analyzing information

  • Research developments/news of high interest to retail financial advisors & clients

  • Reviewing of financial documents, news reports, press releases and regulatory filings and other event notices so that the analyst can determine the scope of the event and any action that needs to be taken by the FA/client

  • Compiling fundamental and economic data

  • Performing financial analysis

  • Other duties as assigned

This position is located in St. Louis, MO.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of investment research experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of capital structures and business entities

  • Strong accounting skills

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics

  • Ability to develop partnerships and collaborate with other business and functional areas

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of investment research, portfolio analysis or quantitative finance

  • Knowledge and understanding of Investment tools such as Bloomberg or Factset application

  • Solid critical thinking skills

  • Solid decision making skills

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or demonstrated progress toward the designation

  • Knowledge and understanding of equity analysis or research

  • For specific FINRA qualification exams obtained after 9/30/2018, the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam co-requisite may also be required

  • Registration for FINRA Series 7 must be completed within 180 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.

  • Registration for FINRA Series 66 (or 63 and 65) must be completed within 180 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.

  • Registration for FINRA Series 86 must be completed within 180 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. Series 86 exam completion may be waived if applicant has passed Level II of the CFA examination within the last two years or is recognized by CFAI as currently holding the CFA designation and has contiguously held a research related position as determined by FINRA.

  • Registration for FINRA Series 87 must be completed within 180 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.

  • Obtaining and/or maintaining appropriate Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) license(s) is required for ongoing employment in this position. In addition state registration, specific product licenses or SAFE licensing may apply. Additional requirements include meeting enhanced financial fitness and criminal background standards. Wells Fargo will initiate the FINRA review process at the time of offer acceptance.
