Job Description:

The DPM supports U.S. Trust in the consistent and appropriate implementation of our investment value proposition and drives a consistent client experience through the implementation of the centrally managed portfolios through portfolio manager consultations and portfolio reviews/proposals, where appropriate.

The Director of Portfolio Management (DPM) serves as a national level reviewer of risk and compliance duties to alleviate work from the MIE’s desk to allow them to focus more on working with clients, growing the business and mentoring and guiding associates.

In coordination with the SPCs and the market leadership, the DPM is involved in the coaching and training of portfolio management associates in the markets where we have identified gaps. The DPM will help drive routines, activities and behavior in the markets on portfolio implementation, growth and client management.

Investment Management Delivery and Portfolio Manager Oversight

Inspects, coaches and monitors that appropriate investment strategies are being delivered to clients/prospects in line with client objectives, our fiduciary model and US Trust thought leadership

Ensures fiduciary standards and US Trust policies are being used in an investment capacity applied in accordance with our policies

Perform book of business reviews; create plan/follow up on any issues

Client Experience

Troubleshoot, resolve any investment-related client issues

Works with teams on removing obstacles

Promotes a consistent client experience by promoting adoption of CIO investment themes and centrally managed portfolios, where appropriate


Drives responsible growth culture

Works with teams on the following risk processes:

Reg 9, AAM, IPS Customization, IPS Quality

TPR – Reviews and evaluates outlier portfolios, ensures PMs understand root cause of the exceptions and guides PMs towards actionable ideas to better align portfolios to GWIM guidance and/or stated investment objectives

Participates in divisional AIRC meetings

Utilizes results of risk processes in coaching investment teams

Proactively identifies/creates processes/routines to mitigate recurring issues/trends

Ensures that we are bringing in business that is appropriate for our platform

Consult with WPS leadership in approval of all new IMT business

Works with trust on at-risk processes

Portfolio Management Development & Training

Develop activities and tools to help enable PM/PMA productivity

Assess skill, knowledge, and capabilities gaps identified through coaching & analysis

Coordinate with CBME on national investments training as needs or trends dictate

Coordinate with CBME on prioritizing external manager meetings based on high conviction and implementation ideas from GWIM CIO


Strong investment and analytical skills (typically holding CFA or CIMA designation)

Deep knowledge of investment platform and capabilities

Abilities to keep current economy, markets, platform and policies

Strong relationship skills

Experience managing client accounts

Understanding of how to navigate the organization to clear obstacles

Deep understanding of high net worth clients’ needs and solutions

Ability to diagnose performance gaps and identify the right solution

Coaching and developing talent

Bachelor's degree required
