The Clinical Nurse Supervisor manages healthcare team members, must have excellent communication skills to effectively counsel, support, and direct. Expected to lead others through change and crisis situations. Must have excellent critical thinking skills to problem solve issues. Must be able to delegate responsibilities to subordinates based on skill sets and scope of practice. Expected to receive and give patient care reports. Expected to assist in completion of annual reviews as delegated. Some other responsibilities within role include: chairing committees within the department, manage resource issues (staffing), oversee scheduling conflicts and facilitate orientation and on-going education of employees.
Must have clinical competence to serve as resource to subordinates. Must be self-directed with the ability to lead others. Must have effective communication, be able to critically think quickly under stress and respond appropriately to crisis situations. Must be able to effectively communicate to physicians and other healthcare team members. Must be able to collaborate and negotiate with co-workers and other healthcare team members. Must be able to effectively manage conflict.
Minimum one (1) year of clinical practice in the clinical specialty of the specific unit/department. Three (3) years of clinical practice in the clinical specialty of the specific unit/department preferred. Leadership and management experience is highly desirable.
Current RN license for the state of Utah. BLS
