Aetna Technical Product Owner in Salt Lake City, Utah

This role is responsible for managing the internal-facing product management activities for a specific product suite. He/she will work with development, quality assurance (QA) and operational teams to deliver high-quality software in support of company priorities and strategy.

Fundamental Components

This role will execute significant product initiatives in area of strategic importance. The candidate must have:

Strong project management skills, strong technical knowledge of products and technical systems.

Demonstrated ability to design, prioritize and allocate work for a team of developers.

Key responsibilities

Leverages in-depth knowledge and understanding of technology to execute new product initiatives, including product enhancements and architecture design

Evaluates and provides requirements/specifications for use of appropriate business processes and systems to support product initiatives

Seek and maintain comprehensive understanding of internal system architecture to inform development priorities

Consult / drive effective product documentation and training to meet organizational goals

Understand and track key productivity and quality indicators to insure effective product portfolio performance.

Collaborate with a cross-functional development team and implementation work groups. Anticipate resource needs, set priorities, establish accountabilities, define roles/responsibilities and interface with internal teams.

Directs the development of materials for internal audiences related to new product roll-out. May support sales teams as subject matter expert.

Interprets competitor and industry standards to inform the development backlog and product features

Assesses developmental needs and collaborates with others to identify and implement action plans that support the development of high performing teams


5+ years of related industry experience (such as healthcare information technology, product management, software development)

Strong technical background in database design and management and scalable data platforms

Experience with analytical tools and methods

Training or experience in agile software development, product management and/or product marketing


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
