Job Description

The Natural Gas Scheduler is part of the Commercial North America Gas Operations Team responsible for the day-to-day operational management of Shell Energy Americas (SEAm) gas activities in the Western United States. The scheduler will provide scheduling and operations support to various business desks across North America.

The primary purpose is to carryout daily natural gas scheduling and operational duties for SEAm which includes but is not limited to the following accountabilities:

  • Coordinate the daily product movement for SEAm and agency customers including equity gas production, purchases, sales, transportation, storage on both interstate and intrastate pipelines via electronic bulletin boards while ensuring contract obligations and regulatory requirements are met

  • Report physical pipeline positions to SEAm trading groups

  • Schedule accurate nominations meeting all deadlines throughout the day

  • Gain Awareness regarding the optimization of transport and delivery requirements to monetize value for the trade desk

  • Awareness of pipeline’s tariff general terms and conditions

  • Monitor and report pipeline operational information to trading to maximize trading opportunities

  • Manage and balance pipeline and customer accounts

  • Strict compliance with FERC Shipper Must Hold Title, Dodd Frank Bookout requirements and understanding of the buy/sell capacity release rules

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of all contractual, license and regulatory requirements

  • Aware of the various balancing mechanisms in use across North America regarding imbalance tolerances and the financial cash out risks for shippers and traders

  • Input operational information daily into SEAm internal gas management system (Endur) for accurate P&L and a clean hand off at month end

  • Become proficient in the knowledge and use of SEAm internal gas management system to troubleshoot issues effectively from deal entry to invoicing

  • Foster and maintain strong working relationships with teammates

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Provide back up support to other schedulers within own team

  • Perform monthly close activities, if applicable, on top 10 pipelines to ensure timely and accurate reporting


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Natural gas scheduling experience preferred

  • Self-starter and ability to effectively multi-task

  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and meet strict time sensitive deadlines

  • Effective communicator with interpersonal skills

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing internal and external requirements

Commercial Acumen:

  • Commercially aware, demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills


  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for Natural Gas Scheduling preferred

  • Continuous Improvement:

  • Knowledge of LEAN practices and continuous improvement would be preferred; ability to suggest and implement process changes and new procedures

  • Champions continuous improvements (CI) by proactively supporting the forward plan for maintaining and improving systems, tools, data and processes as well as sharing best practices.

  • Scheduling Gas Storage & Transportation:

  • Awareness of Shell’s Equity supply, gathering lines, processing plants and downstream optionality is preferred

  • Aptitude to learn additional natural gas scheduling systems and other applications

STN Systems:

  • Knowledge of internal system; Endur / G-motion to capture gas flows daily, experience preferred

  • Detailed knowledge of MS office tools including Excel

  • Knowledge in data systems analysis; able to identify system errors, identify reason - SQL skills preferred
