Responsible for the design and layout of complex multi-layer Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). Complexity of assignments requires initiative and ability to design independently with only general technical direction. Performs all assignments in compliance with engineering and contractual requirements, and within budget and schedule constraints. This position typically works under general supervision and direction.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs engineering design work requiring individual creativity and application of advanced design techniques, including use of two and three-dimensional computer aided design (CAD) software and three-dimensional solid modelers, with consideration of practical fabrication techniques for photomasks, fabrication process design rules and best practices and problems of related complexity.
Support internal and external design review activities.
Synthesizes input from a variety of engineering disciplines (fabrication process engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, test engineers, etc.) into coherent design feedback and implements design changes necessary to meet the needs of all areas.
May develop solutions to routine engineering problems including performing tolerance analyses.
Determines manpower/man-hour needs and develops estimates-to-complete for assigned projects.
Attends meetings with engineering, manufacturing and customer representatives related to design efforts.
Maintains related documentation and work records.
Prepares cost proposal estimates in support of new business.
Supports the process improvement development effort for high speed digital design and development.
Manages the interface between the engineers and the PCB fabrication vendors.
Create Fabrication Drawings, Assembly Drawings, and Gerber files.
Create 3-D via structures as library elements, support 3D via impedance simulation.
Experience with high speed design techniques to include, differential signaling, impedance control management, and low inductance power supply design.
Experience with analog and digital mixed signal multi-layer, multi-lam boards
Experience with Altium Designer preferred.
Minimum Job Requirements: Two-years of technical training, or equivalent, in drafting and engineering, plus a minimum of ten years of electro-mechanical drafting and design engineering experience including CAD experience. Ability to use typical office automation products such as computer spreadsheets and word processing programs. Proficiency using CAD software required. Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and contractual requirements. Capable of performing technical analyses. Must be able to work long periods at a design workstation. Effective written and oral communication skills required.
