Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

Job Summary:

This role is for a technically skilled, senior developer who will enhanceexisting data products based on our vast, internet-focused data repository. Thedeveloper will also rapidly design and build high-impact analytics prototypesthat will serve the broader Oracle as well as external customers.

This person will be a member of,and will work primarily with, the Hanover Data Analytics team; they will alsobe expected to work with varying internal and external teams in a fast-paced,fluid environment. This individual should be able to work with minimalsupervision on open-ended problems. The role demands considerableself-motivation and an ability to manage changing priorities, intellectualcuriosity, and wide-ranging technical mastery.

Major Duties:

  • Design and develop advanced data analytics techniques and software based on streaming data sets focused on the structure and status of the global internet.

  • Provide review and input to various stakeholders requirements; using those, negotiate technical requirements leading to rapid prototypes and, eventually, deployable systems.

  • Troubleshoot and coordinate problem resolution activities with support teams.

  • Develop test plans/cases to be used in verifying documented requirements.

  • Travel occasionally.


  • Bachelor s degree in Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science.

  • Advanced degree is a plus.


A high level of skill using:

  • Linux, bash, and other commonly used open source protocols/frameworks (e.g., Github).

  • At least one of Python, Go, or Perl.

Experience with:

  • Automating data analysis from extremely large, complex datasets.

  • Indexed data retrieval using some database technology (e.g., SQL).

  • NoSQL methods (e.g., Hadoop).

  • Writing new APIs and writing to existing APIs.

Has familiarity with:

  • Network protocols and routing (e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, BGP, etc.).

  • Multiprocessing, threading, distributed systems, and distributed computing environments.

A person who:

  • Should be willing and able to train and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
