Energy Platform Team
Shell’s Energy Platform team is leading Shell’s efforts to design, develop, deliver and maintain a global energy management platform that unlocks value across Shell’s Power business. The Energy Platform team aims to enable Shell’s efforts to harness the potential in its vast fleet of customers, energy assets, and power trading capabilities to deliver value across the energy industry value chain.

Achieving a balance between agility and global scale provides unique opportunities, and the Energy Platform Team borrows from best-in-class product development, continuous delivery, and commercialization techniques while adapting them to the unique global context within Shell.
The Energy Platform team is empowered to coordinate and align Shell’s energy management platform objectives, strategies, and execution approaches across the company, as well as to design, deliver and maintain a mission-critical component of Shell’s ability to deliver differentiated products, offerings and capabilities across its expanding global footprint.
The Commercialization Analyst will be an early member of a growing Energy Platform Commercialization team, which is tasked with launching the Shell Energy Platform with our customers, as well as engaging with strategic partners and setting the trajectory for ongoing Energy Platform development. In this position, you will contribute in many or all of the following areas, depending on experience, interest, and business need:
Business model development and iteration
Engage with Platform team and Shell stakeholders to maintain working financial models that characterize the business model and future financials
Support the evaluation of the impact of potential commercial opportunities and strategies on the team’s business model
Lead execution of original techno-economic analyses in new topic areas where the commercial context is ambiguous and quickly changing
Support techno-economic analyses that drive insights on project development, commercial, acquisition, and acquisition synergies opportunities
Product strategy and incubation
Analyze the impact of product strategy options on the Platform’s business model
Drive product incubation processes from evaluation through testing to handoff to the product development team
Go-to-market strategy support
Analyze and evaluate different market strategies based on market dynamics, competitive forces, customer value proposition, business model, and Shell differentiating capabilities.
Support the development of commercial contracts and offerings
Early stage business development
Collaborate with Shell teams to drive initial customer engagements and Platform deployments from early engagement to scoping and closing deals
M&A integration support
Support development of M&A integration plans
Support iteration and execution of M&A integration plans
Support cultural, procedural, and technical collaboration across Energy Platform ecosystem of vendors, partners, and Shell-acquired companies
Work openly and collaboratively across the Commercialization, Energy Platform, and broader Shell teams
Switch seamlessly from solo crunch time in front of a spreadsheet to group brainstorming and ideation sessions and move nimbly between topic areas
Contribute your expertise, learn from others, and ask questions

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
4+ years of experience in business development, strategy, or finance roles, preferably in the renewable energy or utility sectors.
Demonstrated analytical problem-solving abilities and the flexibility to formulate answers to problems with incomplete information
Experience in the energy management domain, including energy asset portfolio projects, energy platform offerings, and energy-domain software applications (e.g. wholesale energy market bidding and transactions, DER product sales support tools, portfolio optimizations, etc.)
Expertise in commercial financial modeling, with demonstrated ability to quickly model project, business, and product economics
Experience in supporting the closure of commercial deals
Experience in project management of pilot and reference customer commercial deployments
Experience at a top tier management consultancy a plus
Technical or quantitative degree
