The IBM Cloud Garage is a transformative consulting practice within IBM that partners with clients of all sizes to build innovative applications on the IBM Cloud Platform.The San Francisco Garage is a unique environment, located at the SoMa, Galvanize Campus. We have open workspaces which are intentionally designed to stimulate creativity, learning, and transformation using the IBM Cloud Garage Method . The Garage Method combine industry practices, including IBM Design Thinking, Lean Startup, agile development and continuous delivery to build innovative solutions.

About the Practice Manager Role:

In this role, you will be leading a best-in-class, multi-disciplinary consultancy team of Developers, Designers, Architects, Engagement/Project Managers, and Experience Leaders. As a Practice Manager, you will:

Develop Business and Manage Client Relationships:

  • Present the Garage to clients

  • Manage the client relationships

  • Oversee or lead workshops using IBM Design Thinking

  • Negotiate client deals and develop contracts

  • Ensure Project and Client Success

  • Be accountable for business results including meeting client satisfaction, productivity, financial objectives, and other business measurements.

Build and Develop the Cloud Garage Team:

  • Help to attract, hire and retain developers, designers, architects and engagement/project managers

  • Identify and support career development opportunities and help develop leaders

  • Actively cultivate the Garage culture

  • Share information and assign work to link employees' work to IBM's strategy, market performance and local organization's goals.

  • Foster teamwork and inclusion – and promote IBM's diversity and inclusive leadership and IBM Values.

  • Support change, encourage employees to innovate, evaluate suggestions, and remove obstacles to approved implementation efforts.

Build and Manage the Cloud Garage Brand:

  • Facilitate relationships and partnerships with the startup community within the Galvanize campus

  • Partner with marketing on events and PR

  • Interface with internal groups interested in working with the Cloud Garage

  • Help raise Cloud Garage brand awareness within and outside of IBM via hosting and/or sponsoring tech talks, meetups, hackathons and other events


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience in a customer-facing position as a professional consultancy services leader

  • Experience driving business results and financial KPIs within technology consulting

  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary customer-facing technology teams

  • Experience managing small and large customer engagements and interactions

  • Experience with agile methodologies

  • Experience attracting new talent, developing team capabilities, and performing people management responsibilities

  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong organizational and operations skills with an ability to manage numerous, competing demands from internal and external stakeholders and customers

  • High-level of skill communicating and collaborating effectively across internal and external organizations, including sales, solution architects and customers

  • Outstanding teaming and customer relationship management experience and collaboration skills in a consulting team leader role

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Consulting practice leadership experience

  • Consulting experience working with large enterprise organizations as well as startups

  • 2+ years’ experience with a consultancy team using agile methodologies

  • Previous business results and financial management experience

  • Previous Technology and/or Project Management consultancy experience
