As Senior UX Researcher / UX Research Lead, you will drive the research roadmap and prioritization across consumer-facing and enterprise product groups. You will work with the User Experience and Product teams to drive research projects both in-person and remote, translate research insights into actionable design recommendations, and communicate findings to the team and the company. We will look to you to see the big picture across all of our research efforts and maintain a library of high-level insights. Being able to understand design, business needs and the product development process will be an important part of the role, and you will serve as an advocate for the users of our products with stakeholders across the organization and with clients as well. This role will report to the Director of User Experience.

What You’ll Make Happen:
Get up to speed on Opower and Oracle Utilities products and Behavioral Science fundamentals.
Provide research leadership, including skill-building and research mentorship to UX Team members.
Design and execute research study plans and synthesize the data into actionable insights for design and product teams.
Present research insights and discuss the value of research across the organization, including to senior-level stakeholders and clients.
Play an important role in the early design process by facilitating activities such as brainstorming, articulating customer journeys, identifying design opportunities from research insights, etc.
Collaborate with analytics and quantitative researchers to inform research strategy and understand product performance.
Develop and maintain a library of research insights, and serve as a point of contact for inquiries related to past research studies.

7 years in applied UX/design research in a fast-paced product organization.
BA/BS or MA/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Information Science, Computer Science or related fields.
Confident in exploratory and evaluative methodologies, and comfortable carrying out both in-depth rigorous research and quick lean studies.
Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of various qualitative and quantitative research methods, including when and how to apply them during product design lifecycle.
Demonstrated success influencing product and design decisions based on research insights.
Excellent communication & collaboration skills and the ability to facilitate discussions.
Ability to juggle multiple large projects at once, and formulate strategy for research direction amidst ambiguity.
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Responsible for creating, evaluating and modifying prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development.
As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation and task and objective analyses. Provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations. May produce specifications describing user needs and internal structures for product in development.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically seven years of software engineering or related experience needed.
