Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Manager in San Jose, CA.
Work You ll Do
Assist clients to manage state tax liability and such challenges as states with unique tax laws, the enforcement focus of state departments of revenue, the growing number of audits, and increased merger and acquisition activity. Services include business restructuring, credits and incentives, sales and use tax, sales and use tax outsourcing, state income and franchise tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. Provide compliance and consulting services to corporate clients. Responsible for the diagnosis, solution, development and implementation of clients' tax needs. Manage client accounts through delivering all tax consulting services to the client and bringing in specialists when necessary. Oversee complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries. Participate in engagements requiring tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues such as deferred tax liability issues and tax implications of financing techniques. Assume tax-planning responsibilities for corporate clients. Supervise assignments by the professional accountants serving as Tax Consultants and Tax Seniors. Responsible for the development and motivation of staff and for providing leadership, counseling and guidance.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Business Administration or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent).
Five years' experience preparing and reviewing tax returns, estimates, extensions, and provisions for corporations and partnerships in multistate jurisdictions.
Experience must include five years of:
Providing income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, state tax audit defense, and income tax accounting services for multistate companies;
Preparing and filing K-1s, withholding, and composite returns for partnerships and limited liability companies, including hedge funds and private equity funds;
Utilizing tax research tools, including CCH, RIA Checkpoint, BNA, and LexisNexis, to research complex tax issues relating to tax law changes, regulations, and tax cases;
Utilizing tax preparation software, including Corptax, GoSystem, ProSystem, ONESOURCE, and SuperForm, to prepare corporate, partnership, state, and local tax returns;
Performing state taxation services, including state apportionments, modifications, and state and local credits calculation, based on varying state regulations;
Working directly with clients to address tax compliance and mediating between clients and state revenue department to resolve state tax notices, audit, and other tax-related issues or inquiries;
Preparing complex tax technical memos and responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and various tax notices;
Applying core state tax concepts, including nexus, allocation and apportionment, state tax base, state tax withholding, and entity level taxes;
Preparing the client s income tax provision for purposes of preparing financial statements in accordance with accounting standards for income taxes under ASC 740 on a quarterly basis; and
Leading teams and participating in the full life cycle of an engagement, including budgeting, staffing, billing, and invoicing.
In the alternative, the employer is willing to accept a Master's degree and 3 years of experience as noted above.
