Plans, schedules and implements programs for individuals and group activities based on residents' schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides input to and maintains departmental budget.- Assess and complete assigned sections of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) completely, timely and accurately.- Where indicated, use the resident assessment protocols (RAPs) to determine whether to proceed to care planning for concerns related to a resident's activity program needs.- Identify and document in the resident's care plan, the activity interests, needs and concerns of the resident.- Document all interaction with resident and/or family in the assessment, care plan and progress notes as required by federal and state requirements.- Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.- Plan and implement Reality Orientation programs when appropriate.- Participate in nursing restorative and rehabilitative programs.- Plan and conduct Residents' Council meetings.- Plan and implement evening and weekend functions as necessary.- Take part in in-service education programs and attend all in-service sessions related to Activity program.- Recruit, schedule and supervise assistants and volunteers.- Organize and schedule community events related to residents' interests.- Coordinate and supervise barber and beauty parlor activities.- Plan, schedule and implement room visits and in-room activities for residents unable or unwilling to leave their rooms.- Plan, schedule and implement indoor and outdoor activity programs.- Maintain an activity attendance record for each resident.- Assess needs and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs.- Observe infection control procedures related to Activity Program.- Be responsible for safety of residents under his/her supervision.- Follow all facility policies and procedures.- Assume Quality Assurance duties as assigned.- Consistently work cooperatively with residents, residents' representatives, facility staff, physicians and ancillary service providers.- In consultation with Supervisor, direct and coordinate the work of the activity assistants, aides and/or volunteers.- Coordinate with other staff members the provision of spiritual/emotional counseling services.- Occasional weekend activities required.- Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. Basic Qualifications:

Experience- Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five (5) years, one (1) year of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting.- One year (1) previous of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.Education- High School Diploma OR General Education Diploma (GED) required.License, Certification, Registration- Current California licensed/certified/accredited Occupational Therapist, Art Therapist, Music Therapist, Dance Therapist, Recreation Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant required. Additional Requirements:- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:- Satisfactory completion of at least 36 hours of training in a course designed specifically for skilled nursing facility activity program leaders and approved by the Department of Health Services highly preferred.
