As

a manager you will own the execution of software design and development for

major components of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure. You should have technical

depth, architectural know how, distributed systems generalist, strong people

and process manager and able to dive deep into any part of the stack and

low-level systems. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a

collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

From

a technology perspective, this is a greenfield development environment with a

huge amount of autonomy, leaving us free to build and innovate without being

encumbered by legacy products and services.

The

Advanced Big Data Analytics Service team’s charter is to build a fully managed,

cloud native service focused on large-scale analytics on (mostly) unstructured

data stored in data lakes, and management of the data in the data lakes. The

service work scope encompasses not just good integration with OCI’s native

infrastructure (security, cloud storage, etc.), but also deep integration with

other relevant cloud native services in OCI (like Oracle Kubernetes, Data

Catalog, ADW, etc.). It includes doing cloud native ways of doing service level

patching & upgrades and maintaining high availability of the service in the

face of random failures & planned downtimes in the underlying

infrastructure (e.g., for things like patching the Linux kernels to take care

of a security vulnerability). Developing systems for monitoring and getting

telemetry into the service’s runtime characteristics and being able to take

actions on the telemetry data is a part of the charter.

Responsibilities

  • Provideleadership, direction and strategy

  • Identify,recruit and retain strong engineering talent

  • Workwith members of the team and manage smart engineers doing the design anddevelopment of key features needed to make the Big Data Analytics Servicessuccessful

  • Demonstrateexpertise in cloud engineering and distributed systems

  • Haveprior experience in building and delivering world class products

  • Workwith geographically distributed teams and contribute to the success ofhis/her and other related teams

  • Workwith designers and product managers to arrive at a product/servicedefinition and get the definition to an execution plan

  • Supporta highly available and resilient cloud service, and build the supportingsystems in/outside Apache Spark to be able to deliver on these

  • Workwith the team and outside to get necessary approvals for the architectureand design for the problem at hand

  • Interactwith other service leads in OCI, and be able to come up with clear planson integration with those as needed

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 10years of experience in software development.

  • 3Years of experience leading engineering teams.

  • BSin Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practicalexperience.

  • 5years of experience delivering and operating large scale, highly availabledistributed systems.

  • 2years of cloud experience.

  • 2years of experience managing a complex software development project andworking in a domain of operating a service.

  • Experiencewith Spark, Kubernetes, and Containers.

  • Demonstratedability to identify and recruit very strong engineering talent.

  • Experienceat an organization with strong operational/devops culture.

  • Scalesystems sustainably through mechanisms such as easy to use tooling andautomation. Work in concert with service developers to evolvesystems/products for better scalability, reliability and release velocity.

  • Previoussuccess in the definition and evolution of standard practices andprocedures for our team and org.

  • Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills with the ability to presentcomplex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences.

  • Resultsdriven; thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative,and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture.

Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
