AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Entry Level Biologist for immediate employment for the Santa Maria, CA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.This position would support numerous natural resource projects in the central California coast region The candidate must be motivated, able to work independently and on large teams, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. The candidate would ideally be assigned to the Santa Maria, CA office, but must be able to travel to and work in Los Angeles, Kern, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego Counties.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Work on multi-disciplinary teams with other biologists, archaeologists, planners, landscape architects, and air quality and noise specialists

  • Perform technical work involving ESA permitting, resource management planning, and biological impact analysis for CEQA and NEPA documents

  • Monitor environmental compliance of large and small construction projects including planning, implementation, and monitoring for habitat restoration

  • Conduct general field biological assessments (often in adverse weather/terrain conditions) including but not limited to:

  • Endangered species/habitat assessments

  • Resource constraints analyses

  • Sensitive species protocol surveys

  • Wildlife identification

  • Botanical identification and inventories

  • Focused rare plant surveys

  • Vegetation mapping

  • Tree surveys

  • Jurisdictional delineations including permitting per USACE, RWQCB and CDFW requirements

  • GPS & GIS mapping

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or similar related field.

  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to travel 50%-100% during peak periods (with overnight stays).

  • Commitment to producing quality work, positive attitude and strong work ethic

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to travel to assignments in Los Angeles, Kern, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties.

  • Valid driver license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Biology, Ecology, natural Resources, Environmental Science, or similar field.

  • General knowledge of CEQA/NEPA regulatory framework and their application to projects.

  • Interested in marketing CEQA/NEPA work through existing clients or selling these services to new clients.

  • Experience with projects in Los Angeles, Kern, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties.

  • Proficient writer and analyst.
