Job Description:


This position provides Systems Engineering and Technical Advice (SETA) support to the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Modeling and Simulation Operations (M&S OPS) directorate at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.


M&S OPS manages models and simulations that support the development, evaluation, and warfighter training of the Missile Defense System (MDS). M&S OPS is also developing a cloud based computing environment that will allow the federations of those models and simulations into an integrated digital MDS representation onto a single computing system. This position provides support to the government Contracting Officer Technical Representatives (COTRs) who manage the software applications and infrastructure life cycle processes for the directorate.

Systems Engineering provides facilitation, guidance, and leadership to integrate the relevant disciplines and specialty groups into a cohesive effort, forming an appropriately structured development process that proceeds from concept to production, operation, evolution and eventual disposal. Systems Engineering considers the business and the technical needs of customers with the goal of providing a quality solution that meets the needs of stakeholders, the solution's fitness for the intended purpose in real-world operation, and avoids or minimizes adverse unintended consequences. The goal of Systems Engineering activities is to manage risk, including the risk of not delivering what the customer wants and needs, the risk of late delivery, the risk of excess cost, and the risk of negative unintended consequences.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Assist senior engineers in the design, development, and operations of products by working with the integration and test teams, hardware and software architects, cybersecurity specialists, tool developers, and the modeling and simulation community.

  • Assist in the creation, management, and execution of software development processes based on Agile and Lean software development principles.

  • Define, develop, maintain, manage, execute, and deliver modeling and simulation system capability to support flight and ground test events, exercises and wargames training events, and Missile Defense System concept and performance assessments.

  • Plan, execute, and report results of tests, assessments, and experimentation in support of interoperability, systems, and technical measurement requirements. Develop draft test concepts and collect data to support the verification, validation, and accreditation of models, simulations, and systems.

  • Research, formulate, and articulate engineering policies, procedures, guidelines, alternatives, and recommendations for senior engineers. Develops draft initiatives to improve integration and execution and provide recommendations to senior engineers.

  • Support evaluation of the adequacy of analysis and engineering solutions and assessments as project execution occurs. Support program reviews, milestone decisions, and other decision forums. Perform risk assessments when directed. Monitor performance of technical risks. Develop techniques to monitor integrated programs, plans, and schedules for adequacy.

  • Support the development, review, and editing of system requirement documents, verification and validation results, method paper reviews, test case designing, and analysis for requirements closure.


  • BS degree (STEM) with 2+ years of related professional experience.

  • Systems Engineering proficiency

  • Action Officer (AO) proficiency

  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency

  • Ability to obtain Secret clearance

The anticipated annualized full time target compensation (median) for this position is: $75,000.00.Benefits for this position include: medical, dental, vision, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and 401K.Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
