Senior UX Designer – Oracle Public Cloud, Infrastructure-as-a-Service

Cloud Infrastructure Group (Seattle, WA)

LOCATION: Seattle, WA local candidates (or willing to relocate) strongly preferred

The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Group is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best in class compute, storage, networking, database, and security.

Who are we and what is our mission?

As OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) experiences explosive growth, most of our groups are focused on delivering customer features as quickly as possible while still maintaining a high level of quality. What most groups are not as focused on, however, are building out the "operating system" of the OCI division itself. As the number of people in OCI doubles and triples, we have to make heavy investments in the services and tools people will need in order to be successful in their various roles, whether Software Engineer, Vice President, or Recruiting Coordinator. Otherwise the amount of 'friction in the machine' will grow until things slowly grind to a halt.

That's where we come in.

We're the IBA (Internal Business Applications) and DevOps Portal groups. Our mission is to provide the technological muscle to allow OCI's tools and services to grow and mature as fast as our customer offerings and headcount. It's a huge mission and there will be no shortage of interesting and varied projects and services to create.

Why would you want to be a part of this journey?

We're a tight-knit and supportive group which welcomes new people to their ranks. We not only focus on an excellent customer experience, we also spend the time to make sure that your onboarding and ramp-up experience is a great one. Unlike some companies, we expect our UX Designers to have a seat at the table with the other stakeholders. To work with the stakeholders, product leads, and other team members to truly own and drive the customer experience. You will have as much of a say in our products as anyone. We work together and help each other out. We also don't work long hours as we realize that work and life need to be properly integrated in order for us all to be in good shape throughout our journey. Life (including work) is a marathon, not a sprint.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for experienced Senior UX Designers with a passion for creating best-in-class experiences for our various internal business groups. Our services must be intuitive, easy to use, and empower our organization to not only be more efficient and effective, but also make smarter decisions faster. In this role, you will collaborate with various business groups to determine the technical challenges we need to solve from an infrastructure, tools and frameworks perspective. Working either solo or in small teams, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting software solutions to address these challenges. Through this work, you will play a critical role in increasing the velocity and quality of strategic decision making within OCI, as well as help us grow the organization at a hyper-pace.

As an ideal candidate, you will have an understanding of large-scale distributed systems (cloud-based environments), possess the technical ability to identify and break down challenging technical problems, as well as design and implement solutions to those problems. In addition, you are passionate about improving engineering and business efficiency and developing a technical breadth of how we build, test and deliver our tools and services. You are results driven and thrive in an environment that is agile, collaborative and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity. You are excited to utilize your in-depth knowledge of delivering complex services and expertise in hands-on software development to create an engineering environment that embodies the best development and testing practices for delivering a high-quality service.

These are exciting times in our space - we are growing fast, still at an early stage, and working on ambitious new initiatives. If you are passionate about taking ownership of big technical challenges and producing software solutions that have broad, significant impacts - come join our team!
