Description

Project Design and Implementation Engineering designs and implements custom projects involving the integration of diesel and natural gas generators, switchgear, Combined Heat & Power systems and controls automation systems. This position is a design drafting position that will work on electrical systems for switchgear, controls and CHP systems, primarily in the electrical design and panel layout area. The position requires an experience and capability in AutoCAD Electrical and its associated drafting automation tools and reports.

  • Develop CAD models of complex components and assemblies, and revise existing CAD drawings which require more extensive interpretation of practices and procedures.

  • Provide design concepts and recommend design alternatives in alignment with product design requirements.

  • Work independently with limited work direction from Engineering Managers, Technical Project Leaders, and Responsible Design Engineers, and other Design Drafters when directed.

  • Provide work direction to other Design Drafters on assigned projects.

  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

  • Participate in the selection of new processes, equipment, and tools when consulted.

  • Act as a coach and mentor in Drafting and Design related subjects including Drafting Standards, Design Standards, Work Instructions, Policies and Procedures.

  • Occasional interaction with external customers and suppliers.

  • Participate in engineering project planning meetings to be the voice of Design Drafters.

  • Recognize own deficiencies and works to improve own skills.

  • Act as a coach and mentor in Drafting and Design related subjects including Drafting Standards, Design Standards, Work Instructions, Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

  • Associates technical degree or higher in engineering or related field from an accredited program.

  • Intermediate to advanced technical experience required.

  • Demonstrated design expertise in specific mechanical, electrical and/or electronic areas.

  • Advanced knowledge of typical industry related Drafting Standards, Design Specifications, Engineering Standards, Industry Standards, and Product Lifecycle Management related Policies-Procedures.

  • Familiar with the principles, techniques, and procedures related to the most common range of mechanical and/or electrical product design methodologies and processes most utilized by Cummins (harnesses, schematics, castings, fabrication, machining, etc.).

  • Familiar with the principles, techniques, and procedures and effective utilization of CAD Data Management and Product Lifecycle Management methods, systems, and/or applications.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (communicating to internal and external customers, peers, stakeholders, etc.).

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and operating computer systems.

  • High level skills in the use of CAD systems, including most options and modules, and skilled in typical computer tools.

  • Design and Draft Electrical and Mechanical projects for Lean Burn Natural Gas, Switchgear and Diesel Generators

  • Utilize AutoCAD to design Process and Implementation Diagrams.

  • Utilize CREO for 3D Design of isometric piping and enclosures.

  • Ensure on time delivery of all project designs.
