The Senior Technical Information Specialist establishes and maintains procedures for adhering to performance metrics and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive reference, research, and information services support to a research team in response to requests for information related to health, toxicological, behavioral, or physiologic effects of tobacco products and their constituents, ingredients, components, and additives.

  • Plans, develops, and maintains computer- based files used for storage and retrieval of toxicological and environmental information of national and international scope.

  • Provides comprehensive reference, research, and information services support to a research team in response to request.

  • Prepares literature searches and bibliographies on a diversity of topics using a wide variety of bibliographic databases in health and life sciences that are available at the FDA.

  • Provides a technical role in the planning, developing, managing and evaluation of all activities related to the development of a CTP system for the capture, management, storage and retrieval of tobacco industry research documents.

  • Implement SOPs and train staff in their use.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications : (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • High school Diploma

  • Must have a college degree in science or information management.

  • Ability to lead special project teams is preferred, with a minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in records and document management required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have demonstrated oral and written communication skills, customer service skills, a working knowledge with the standard Microsoft suite of products, and experience in working areas such as document tracking databases, digital imaging and micrographics.

  • Demonstrated data entry skills and attention to detail is required.

  • Must have experience with reading and classifying scientific regulatory documents.

  • Must be proficient in reading, analyzing, classifying, and interpreting regulatory submissions.

  • Must have experience with scientific regulatory documents, and demonstrated speaking, writing, and demonstrated customer service skills.

  • Must have an in‐depth background with computer use, including a working knowledge of the standard Microsoft suite of products

  • Must also have experience in areas such as quality control, overseeing document tracking databases, inventorying records, scanning, and micrographics

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
