Shell Chemicals Marine is responsible for safe and cost competitive delivery of more than 120 different products globally. In Asia, we spend close to $170 mln on shipping, with ambitions to significantly reduce this cost through better contracting, effective contract management, operational excellence and innovative logistics solutions with particular attention to safety.
The Marine Jetty and Operations Coordinator will be supporting the Shell Chemicals ambition to
1) Grow our logistics capabilities to facilitate business growth in the region;
2) Collaborate with Shell Trading to potentially redesign our existing freight mechanisms; and
3) Develop competitive shipping options to support trading activities
Key aspects of this role include:
Operationalizing shipping contracts/options optimally, whilst complying with Group, Chemicals and Governmental standards and regulations
Ensure efficient use of and smooth cargo operations at jetties/berths in Singapore
Working closely with the Charterers, Shell Trading, Manufacturing, Chemicals Commercial and Supply organisation and the ability to integrate, optimize and operationalise dynamic plans and schedules.
Approximately 120 shipments per annum within Asia Pacific
Associated freight spend of USD 6-10 million per annum
The role is responsible for:
1. Shipping Operations
Good understanding of Chemicals priorities, requirements, and constraints to operationalise shipping contracts in line with business objectives/activities. This involves forward planning, liaising and negotiations with various parties such as marine charterers, Shell Trading, supply chain coordinators/managers, commercial managers, terminal schedulers, PU Integrators from Manufacturing, external brokers, ship owners, surveyors, while handling and executing day-to-day operations.
Independently manage shipping activities to ensure safe and smooth operations at competitive cost.
This includes but not limited to:
Understanding laytime parameters and cost implication and work to minimise demurrage risk exposure
Actively working with charterer, Shell Trading, Manufacturing, Chemicals Commercial and Supply team, external brokers and terminals to optimise Time Chartered/vessel operations, including robust tracking of vessel schedules, management of vessel arrivals, loading and discharge timings
Address and resolve any issues that may obstruct a flawless supply chain process, including but not limited to implementation of contingency plans to manage vessel delays and cargo readiness related issues
Knowledge of documentation requirements and workflow, vessel-cargo suitability, vessel-berth compatibility.
Validating freight invoices and monitor for efficient payment
Active participation in post award contract management, including monitoring service levels, safety standards and performance measures
2. Jetty/Berth Optimisation
Optimise vessels loading/discharge timings by planning and preparing programs for incoming ships for loading and discharging chemical products
Monitoring vessel timings, develop and implement contingency actions to manage vessel delays, cargo availability etc,
Independently define, address and resolve any upcoming issues that may obstruct a flawless supply chain process during the ship / shore interface
Reduce overall demurrage exposure for Shell Chemicals through (1) reduction of ‘Big Event’ demurrage and (2) increasing robustness of berth planning by identifying and resolving common causes of load port demurrage occurrence through continuous improvements.
Understand and proactively identify the HSSE risks in our Chemicals shipping operations, working with the Marine Technical Advisors and Marine team to minimise risks and ensure compliance with procedures
Ensure that HSSE in an integral part of all work undertaken by Chemicals Marine team
Visible HSSE Leadership through participation in ship visits, demonstrating care and concern to crew with the help of tools from Partners in Maritime Safety programme.
Understand roles and responsibilities in marine emergency response (MER) process, and active participation in MER drills.
Report out and follow up on ship / shore related quality complaints and HSSE
Understanding the dynamic business needs and matching these requirements operationally
Understanding how marine logistics movements fit into the entire supply chain and how to optimise both individual and collective supply chains
Experience and Qualifications required:
Knowledge of chemicals shipping
Experience in marine operations and scheduling activities
Understanding of APME Chemicals operations and supply / demand chain activities preferred
Promoting an enterprise first mindset
Track record for managing and aligning internal and external stakeholders leading to value generation
Time management, and ability to work in fast changing environment and under pressure
Self motivating with ability to negotiate with third parties and resolve conflicts.
Ability to identify and exploit opportunities for freight and demurrage savings.
