Thermo Fisher Scientific Manager of Procurement - Somerville MA in Somerville, Massachusetts

Job Summary : The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the sourcing requirements that align with Thermo Fisher -VVS overall strategic goals; and serves as a liaison between the company and its suppliers. This position oversees procurement specialists and is responsible for the management of all activities associated with the procurement of product development and manufacturing materials, equipment, and services. The role will provide leadership to the procurement department coordinating all activities to ensure that cost, quality, delivery, and all purchase order requirements are met. The position will contribute to the achievement of cost reduction and capital improvement goals through effective supply management including source selection, pricing negotiations, and maintaining supplier performance .

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Be an effective business partner to VVS operations and liaison between our company and our suppliers Train, develop and lead team of Procurement Analysts Create, Track and communicate Procurement Metrics / Initiatives

Resolve Procurement related issues, track corrective actions and communicate effectively Qualify new suppliers according to the requirements of our Supplier Qualification Program.

Perform supplier maintenance routinely to update supplier information - i.e. ISO certifications / registrations and re-qualification requirements.

Monitor incoming orders to ensure materials and equipment are being delivered, and services completed in a timely manner. Comply to company Bio Expense Approval Policy for all materials, services, and capital equipment purchased for the Client and company.

Work with management and legal as needed to draft, execute, and maintain Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) that ensure confidential information and trade secrets are keep secure.

Maintain and track supplier service contracts for critical equipment and systems and process orders for service renewals as needed.

Resolve material shortages, which are caused by supplier delivery delays, non-conforming material or other problems, to satisfactory resolution. Expedite emergency orders as needed.

Support the Accounts Payable process and work with them to resolve supplier purchasing issues.

Source, select, order, track, and maintain appropriate inventory levels of all commonly used items for all departments.

Source, select, compare and negotiate favorable pricing with suppliers for equipment as well as materials and supplies.

Review the purchase order for accuracy and completeness - i.e. price, quantity, and item description are correct to the purchase order, quote, and invoice Support new process and product development activities as needed. Maintain and track supplier notifications - complete initial assessment, identify affected part numbers, and work with QA and affected department to determine product impact.

File, monitor, maintain, track, and follow-up on supplier complaints for corrective action in order to improve quality, delivery, and service.

Promote strong working relationships internally with all departments and externally with key suppliers.

Work closely with project managers, department managers, scientists, and others to determine project requirements and timelines for purchasing and delivery of materials, equipment, and services needed for process development, manufacturing, and testing. Identify, evaluate, and capitalize on opportunities to reduce purchasing costs and track the savings.

Complete request for quotes (RFQs) and samples for all departments . Operate the Procurement department in compliance with cGMP regulations.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree preferably in a scientific or engineering area

Direct experience leading others and developing staff. Experience working within an ERP system.

5+ with an understanding of cGMP regulations, cleanrooms, upstream cell culture processing, downstream purification processing, formulation and filling, cell therapy, biological assays to assist in understanding of items and equipment being sourced and purchased.

Project Management experience

Familiarity with MS word processing programs and spreadsheets is mandatory, as is a capacity to follow written procedures, and an ability to read, write, and understand English.

Incumbent must have excellent organizational, and oral and written communication skills. ERP Experience - Development, Testing, Implementation (SAP, Oracle)
