South San Francisco, CA OR Guilford, CT | Clinical Next Generation Sequencing Division

How will you make an impact?

We are seeking a strong candidate to work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, software developers, and molecular biologists to help develop cutting edge DNA sequencing instrumentation used in research and regulated markets. The position will focus on the design, development, and verification of both new and existing mechanical / electromechanical hardware, as well as supporting sustaining efforts on existing product lines.

What will you do?

  • Use modeling, prototyping, and laboratory testing to define, design and verify hardware solutions for new instrumentation.

  • Create custom fixtures and procedures for assembling and/or testing complex assemblies.

  • Write verification and validation protocols and related reports to support the transfer of designs to production.

  • Manage and support sustaining efforts for existing products.

How will you get here?

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical or Bio Engineering or related field with 3+ years experience in mechanical design or medical device development.

Experience

  • Experience with SolidWorks, Pro-E, or similar 3D mechanical design software.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to enable efficient design optimization and failure analysis.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • It will be critical that this individual have strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • have experience in designing mechanical / electromechanical hardware

  • have experience in molded plastics / consumables part design

  • have excellent organizational and team skills, as well as thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment

  • be adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organizing and following through, while remaining highly energetic and focused.

  • be Innovative and capable of spanning design disciplines beyond mechanical engineering.

  • have experience in biotechnology or medical device development.
