South San Francisco, CA / Transplant Diagnostics (TDX)

How will you make an impact?

The Scientist II, R&D will administer the development of PCR based assays in the area of molecular diagnostics. This role will be required to work as part of a project team and also contribute significantly on an individual basis and work under minimum supervision or independently based on seniority.

What will you do?

  • Work independently according to seniority and within project teams to perform experimental studies

  • Gather results and document analysis

  • Present results and communicate effectively

  • Write technical reports and participate in meetings

  • Work within a regulatory framework, Quality Management System, and Design Control

  • Develop and track project plans to meet milestones with minimum supervision

  • Adhere to safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe work environment

  • Ensure the proper operation, calibration and preventive maintenance of lab equipment

  • Collaborate with process development teams to transfer successful projects to manufacturing

  • Work comfortably with both in-house and external software tools

  • Ensure the proper maintenance of lab records and book keeping for general matters: purchasing, invoices, safety, MSDS, etc.

How will you get here?

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Molecular Biology AND two (2) years in an industry setting that demonstrates the candidate possesses the targeted expert knowledge and skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience in Molecular Biology (esp. in assay development, validation and troubleshooting on qPCR platforms)

  • Exercises good judgment and be a good team member while retaining the ability to work independently and handle multiple projects and priorities

  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience in a GMP/ISO regulated manufacturing environment a must and general knowledge of global ISO 13485, EU IVDD, CMDCAS, cGMP, cGLP requirements

  • Experience with Experimental Design, Statistical Analysis, Design of Experiment (DOE), for design/optimization/troubleshooting/validation of formulations and assays

  • Direct experience in process development, methods, instrumentation, and software used in in organ and stem cell transplantation and other areas of immunogenetics research
