Job Description


The Clinical Sequencing Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific is in need of a productive and enthusiastic Sr. software engineer. The position will be part of a dedicated team of scientists and engineers working on the renowned Ion Torrent sequencing platform, responsible for developing our commercial software products supporting sequencing instruments. This full-time position is based in our South San Francisco office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as Sr. software engineer for development of our instrument control software and software components

  • Document and review documentation of our software products

  • Work with QC team to review and fix defects

  • Participate in software design reviews and code reviews


  • MUST: 3+ years of experience with commercial software development in C++ and Java. Knowledge of Python. Experience with instrument control software, understanding firmware a big plus.

  • MUST: Solid experience with Unix/Linux programming.

  • MUST: must be a self-starter, have a can-do attitude and excited about learning new things, fit into a fast-paced environment.

  • Understand SW development processes/life cycle and SW Architecture.

  • Working skills in software test methodology and tool sets.

  • Excellent skills in software configuration management.

  • Capable of setting up unit test framework, build process.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Comfortable working in life science domain, understand life science principle.

  • Understanding of basic math/statistics algorithms concepts is a plus.

  • Experience with software development under regulatory environment for clinical diagnostic products is a plus.
