Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Environmental Planner for immediate employment in Southfield, Michigan. The successful candidate will work on a large transportation project and other projects and proposals involving environmental and related work. Familiarity with US and Canadian environmental requirements and protocol will be advantageous. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The right candidate should be capable of conducting the responsibilities listed below and have local knowledge of ecosystems; be someone who works well with others and is comfortable in small or large groups; and who can skillfully and efficiently prepare high quality technical documentation/reports/permit packages.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist an interdisciplinary team with all aspects of environmental impact analysis, compliance tracking and documentation

  • Manage small or medium-sized tasks and serve as support for more complex tasks for a large transportation project

  • Assist Environmental Team Lead with implementation of Environmental Management System

  • Document meeting discussions and help track and complete actions from meetings

  • Analyze and write environmental impacts from project activities to complete environmental documents

  • Ability to participate in field monitoring activities

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Planning or other related field

  • 3+ years' experience successfully supporting or managing NEPA documents, associated technical studies, and environmental permits

  • Understanding of the environmental regulatory framework in Michigan, including applicable state and federal laws

  • Strong research and analytical abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the editing, oversight or preparation of technical reports

  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Ability to document meetings and tracking actions for team members

  • Actively participated in management of environmental tasks including client interaction, schedule and budget controls

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with private developers, municipal, state or federal governments on environmental documents and permits; experience working with the State of Michigan and local municipalities in the Detroit Metropolitan Area preferred

  • Experience interacting with regulatory agency representatives in southern Michigan

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001:2015

  • Ability to participate in field monitoring activities
