Job Summary

AECOM's Buildings & Places business line is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide development engineering and design services for public and private clients for the Michigan B+P Practice with location in either our Grand Rapids or Southfield office This position will have the opportunity to use drafting software to create 3D models of the mechanical systems supporting the operation of these facilities. Other software tools may be utilized to size the building systems and components. A strong interest in engineering system design is required along with a desire to see the finished product in successful operation.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanical design of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems as well as plumbing and fire protection for commercial and institutional facilities.

  • Prepares drawings using computer aided design software including Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Designs heating, ventilating, air conditioning mechanical systems such as ductwork and heating/cooling piping layout and sizing

  • Takes direction from senior mechanical engineering staff

  • Performs mechanical design calculations and standard computations such as building heating and cooling loads.

  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follows operations through series of related detailed steps or process

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related engineering program

  • 2+ years of experience in a consulting engineering environment

  • Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software

  • Experience with Trane Trace or Carrier HAP, AutoCad, BIM, and REVIT

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with designs of plumbing and fire suppression systems is a plus

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam

  • Strong verbal presentation and communication skills
