Monsanto Bioanalytical Chemist in ST. LOUIS, Missouri

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioanalytical Chemist to work in the R&D Analytics Platform within the Analytical Sciences Program which provides analytical chemistry support for all phases of our company’s Ag Productivity Innovations product pipeline.

This position will be responsible for bioanalytical support of our biological product pipeline. The role will involve working collaboratively across our company to arrange and conduct testing supporting both current commercial products, as well as the development and advancement of new products. The work will not only require application of existing methods & instrumental techniques, but also the evaluation and implementation of new technologies to enhance current capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing strategies for microbial, chemical and plant material analysis/characterization.

  • Bench-level ownership and collaboration of experimental design, execution, and data analysis from instrumental (e.g. chromatographic, molecular spectroscopy, etc.) and traditional laboratory (e.g. titration, microscopy, microbiology, etc.) techniques.

  • Developing novel analytical methods to expedite biological product development.

  • Driving coordination with key stakeholders from R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and external collaborators.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry or related field of study.

  • Experience in at least three of the following: chemical, biochemical, molecular, or microbial testing technologies.

  • Experience in assay development and validation.

  • Experience in analyzing and characterizing small and macromolecules.

  • Experience in quantitative analysis and separations science.

  • Experience in analytical method development using LC and/or GC and various mass spectrometry techniques.

  • Knowledge of experimental design and statistical methods.

  • Scientific, yet practical approach to problem solving.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate and influence colleagues across diverse multi-disciplinary teams and to prioritize and manage the demands from multiple projects.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or related field of study.

  • Experience in development of novel analytical methods and/or instrumental techniques.

  • Hands-on experience with a wide variety of analytical techniques to measure chemical composition and physical/physicochemical/biochemical properties.

  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques.

  • Experience evaluating aging and stability characteristics of microorganisms on the seed.

  • Experience evaluating delivery of microorganisms from the treated seed to the soil and subsequent root colonization.

  • Experience in chemical, biochemical, molecular, and microbial testing technologies.

  • Experience in metabolite analysis.

  • Experience building consensus and leading teams through influence.
