Your Role and Responsibilities
The Executive Communications Professional is a trusted leader, providing strategic counsel and support in all communications. This individual works closely with subject matter experts, business leaders and internal / external partners to plan and develop a persuasive external communications platform that differentiates a senior IBM leader and advances the strategic priorities of the company with specific external target audiences, including clients, government leaders, partners, developers, academia, press, analysts and other stakeholders.
Creative, clear strategic thinker with strong research, writing and editing skills and the ability to translate core ideas into a wide range of relevant, compelling communications, including speeches, visual presentations, op-eds, digital assets, etc.
Expert on, or intellectual curiosity for, IBM’s past, present and future with a deep understanding of the enterprise technology industry and its evolving position in the business world and society.
Ability to apply IBM's strategy, values and brand to shape perception and build advocacy both inside and outside IBM.
Adept at collaborating and working well with people across the organization. Able to build cross-disciplinary networks of SMEs to contribute detailed content and expertise as needed for effective communications.
Strong executive presence and business acumen with the ability to ‘take a seat at the table’ with senior business leaders to provide advice and counsel and articulate an informed point-of-view.
Track record of successfully delivering quality content consistently, ethically, professionally and on time (in the face of demanding deadlines), while always demonstrating discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
Knowledgeable about broader communications trends and how different mediums are evolving.
Create and execute robust communications engagement strategy and plan to advance relationships and position IBM as a leader in Cloud, AI, industry expertise and Good Tech.
Assess potential speaking opportunities and pitch new speaking opportunities.
Negotiate, shape and execute the executive’s speaking role, including agenda / placement, competitive separation, format, detailed show flow, panelists, moderator and guest speakers, etc.
Analyze audience to understand strategic positioning, key messages and appropriate mediums that will resonate.
Conduct in-depth research on complex technologies and their industry applications and business benefits.
Craft all content, including speeches, discussion guides, Q&As, and any required speaker notes or other support materials.
Build and deliver comprehensive briefing package to executive, including reviews and signoffs from SMEs and executive sponsors.
Work with event organization on all content and amplification plans as well as logistics details. Provide onsite or real-time support as needed.
Create and maintain executive’s speaking engagements calendar in partnership with administrative team.
Maintain executive’s biography, photos, social media profiles and posts, etc.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
10+ years of proven experience developing and delivering external executive communications programs in a corporate or agency setting.
Superb writing style
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
15+ years of proven experience developing and delivering external executive communications programs in a corporate or agency setting.
Experience driving social engagement via LinkedIn and other platforms a plus.
Former journalist experience.
