Chenega Professional & Technical Services (CPTS) is seeking a Laboratory Analyst IV to support the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Division of Pharmaceutical Analysis (DPA). The Laboratory Analyst IV will provide support to the Office of Testing and Research (OTR) to assist with day-to-day operations, testing of pharmaceuticals materials including active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished drug products and developing advanced analytical methods to improve drug product evaluation. This individual will work alongside laboratory analysts to develop analytical methods, perform testing and provide laboratory support at DPA. The analyst will use a variety of analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, LC-MS and spectroscopy) to characterize and assess the quality of drug products and will be part of a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine analytical procedures and analyses in compliance with applicable methods, protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory agency guidelines.

  • Prepare samples for analysis.

  • Accurately take measurements, document work and maintain laboratory records.

  • Perform equipment and software set-up, calibration, operation, maintenance/troubleshooting.

  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment, including the cleaning of laboratory supplies.

  • Attend and participate in laboratory meetings.

  • Plan assigned workload daily in coordination with management and team members to effectively schedule multiple assignments.

  • Contribute to a cohesive team environment.

  • Meet project deadlines in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Complete necessary training per DPA’s SOPs.

  • Shall comply with laboratory safety SOPs with use of personal protective equipment and safe chemical handling.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Master’s or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or closely related field. 6 (MS) or 2 (PhD) years of relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working with LC-MS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability; detail-oriented.

  • Good verbal and written skills, good learning attitude.

  • Strong organization, record-keeping, data analysis, and computer skills.

  • Team work oriented with good interpersonal skills.

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.

  • During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
