Primary Role

Establish and strengthen relationships with key external stakeholders, including elected officials, government staff, and community and civic organizations. Advocate on behalf of the Company to promote business growth and operational efficiency, including lobbying of elected officials. Work as a liaison between external stakeholders and the Company to address issues while maintaining positive reputation and relationships.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish strategic relationships with elected and appointed officials, especially at the local level in the St. Louis region. Invest considerable time and energy networking to strengthen connections throughout the community and position the Company as a trusted partner and industry expert. Work collaboratively with business, civic, industry, environmental, and other community groups to advance the Company’s priorities. (25%)

  • Understand and communicate effectively with key stakeholders about operational, regulatory and legislative issues. Provide timely and useful information regarding topics such as rate cases, local investment projects, and service disruptions. Work with various internal departments and external stakeholders to quickly address problems that arise, apprising senior management as appropriate. (25%)

  • Track and monitor local ordinances and issues that could have an impact on the Company’s operations and future growth, advising senior management on pertinent policy developments. Develop and implement appropriate strategies and tactics for advancing, amending, or stopping proposed ordinances affecting the Company. Register as a lobbyist with the State of Missouri and fulfill all reporting requirements. (20%)

  • Contribute to a positive work environment by providing constructive feedback to and effectively communicating with team members and management; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other team members and colleagues across the business; and holding oneself and other accountable. (20%)

  • Attend various conferences and events to increase understanding of issues facing the water industry and leverage networking opportunities. (10%)
